SUE PRADO IS a well known name in indie films. She has won the Urian best supporting actress award in only her second film, “Himpapawid” by Raymond Red in 2009, where she played three different roles no less: a prostitute, a flight attendant and a government clerk.
She finished communication arts at UP Los Banos. Her first indie movie was “Abadeha, the Ethnic Cinderella"” in 2007, followed by “Himpapawid”. More indie films followed: “Thelma”, “Bahay Bata”, “Cuchera”, “Mga Dayo”, “Teoriya”, “Patikul”, “Layang Bilanggo” and “Ganap na Babae”.Managed by Ferdie Lapuz, she also appears on theatre and last did the play “The Country Wife” for Dulaang UP. She likewise did TV soaps like “Guns and Roses” for ABS-CBN, “Nagbabagang Bulaklak” for TV5, “Munting Heredera” for GMA-7. She’s now cast as the best friend of Denise Laurel in “Nasaan Ka nang Kailangan Kita”.
On the big screen, she did “Esprit de Corps” for Cinema One and is now playing a key role in “M, My Mother’s Maiden Name”. In “Espirt de Corps”, she did full frontal nudity in a scene where she dances in her birthday suit. Did she have second thoughts doing it?
“Not really, I knew it’ll be required of me,” she says. “It was explained fully by Director Kanakan Balintagos. I knew the intention of the scene and I like it, so I did it.”
She plays an even more demanding role in “M, My Mother’s Maiden Name”. “I play a young mother afflicted with liver disease. Nilagyan ako ng prosthetic make up at pinalaki ang tiyan ko to look bloated. Mother ko si Gloria Sevilla who works for Zsa Zsa Padilla, a rich lawyer na afflicted naman with pancreatic cancer. The film shows the kind of treatment that the rich gets compared to that of poor patients. It’s a very difficult role but we’re glad it got an A from the Cinema Evaluation Board and Zsa Zsa won best actress while Tita Gloria won best supporting actress naman for their performances sa Metro Manila Filmfest New Wave section. Now, we’re all glad na mapapalabas na ito in theatres nationwide starting this Wednesday, January 21. Hindi kami mapapahiya sa viewers.”
