DEREK RAMSAY’s career definitely got a lot of boost with his winning a best actor award in the box office blockbuster that is “English Only, Please”. He’s now besieged with movie offers. There’ll definitely be a part 2 of “English Only, Please” but it’ll be for next year, to be filmed abroad. He’s doing two other films first. One is “Chemistry”, the tentative title of his movie with Kris Aquino, written and directed by hitmaker Chris Martinez, and produced by Atty. Joji Alonso of Quantum Films (who made “English Only, Please”) in cooperation with Mother Lily, Star Cinema and Kris’ own production company. In the story, he and Kris are already married to other partners when they meet.
But first, Derek is busy fulfilling his contract with TV5. His new TV show, “Mac & Chiz”, is starting this Sunday at 8 PM. “It’s my first time to do a sitcom so I’m excited,” he says. “Long lost twin brother ko rito si Empoy Marquez and I’m learning a lot from him about doing comedy. Ako si Macario or Mac, wealthy heir of a successful chain of family restaurants. Masyado akong serious dito, driven sa work, hindi marunong sa chicks. Empoy is my complete opposite. Siya yung ladies man. Saluhan kami dito ni Empoy sa mga eksena namin and he helps me lalo na sa comic timing. Kaya lang, mahirap siyang kaeksena kasi nakikita ko pa lang siya, natatawa na ako at nalilimutan ko mga linya ko kaya ayokong tumingin sa kanya.”
All in all, he’d say that the past year has been a good one for him. “God has been good to me lalo na as the year was about to end, biglang dumating lahat ng blessings. Nagkaayos kami ng anak ko and I won an acting award, so naging maganda ang start ng 2015. Ang wish ko for this year, iwasan na ang mga intriga kasi sobra kong nabugbog ng intriga last year.”
Derek also got much acclaim last year for his villain role as a bank robber in “The Janitor”. “I enjoyed doing that and it inspired me to want to play a bad role again and do darker movies. As an actor, I really want to evolve and never to stop learning about my craft. I don’t want to be playing the good harmless guy all the time in romantic films.”
