THE PAST YEAR was definitely a great and memorable one for Jennylyn Mercado. She got favorable reviews for “Rhodora X” where she played multiple roles and she won her first best actress film award for the Metro Filmfest entry “English Only, Please”. The film’s numerous awards and positive viewer feedback also helped it to become a big box office hit and it has now gone beyond the P100 million mark.
Now, Jennylyn starts the year right with GMA-7’s new primetime soap, “Second Chances”. She has a new album and she also has a Valentine concert to be staged on February 13 at the SM North Edsa’s Skydome. Since it will be held on a Friday the 13th, the concert’s title will be “My Funny Valentine on Friday Duh 13th”. You can say her career is really on a roll and everything’s coming up roses for her.
“Siguro dahil nagpapaka-positive na ako,” she says, referring to her now more cordial relationship not only with Patrick Garcia, the dad of her son Alex Jazz, but also with Patrick’s fiancée, Nikka Martinez. "Thank God the past year is really good. Here's praying that the new year 2015 will be even greater."
Jen is very positive that her new drama show will please TV viewers. “Maganda ang story about people na nagkaroon ng masasamang karanasan sa buhay at nabigyan ng ikalawang pagkakataon, kaya nga ‘Second Chances’ ang titulo ng show,” she says. “I will be a young widow dahil magsisimula ang story na asawa ko si Luis Alandy but after a week, he’ll suddenly pass away kasama ang anak namin. Magkakaroon ako ng second chance through Raymart Santiago or Rafael Rosell, but then magkakaroon ng complications dahil kay Camille Prats na maganda ang role dito as someone with bipolar syndrome at nasanay na she always gets what she wants. Abangan nyo dahil tiyak na hindi kayo bibitaw sa oras na maumpisahan ninyo.”
“Second Chances” will be replacing Dennis Trillo’s “Hiram na Alaala” that will end on Friday. She keeps on saying her lovelife is zero but how come there are persistent reports that she’s seeing Dennis regularly? “Nagkikita kami sa training for triathlon, pero hanggang doon lang. We’re not dating or anything. Tahimik ang buhay ko and I prefer it that way.”
