His movie with Angelica Panganiban, “That Thing Called Tadhana”, opens in theatres on February 4. It is about two broken hearted souls who meet by chance in Rome and fall in love. JM and Angelica admit both of them have experienced having their hearts broken.
“Ako, apat na beses ng na-broken heart at laging yung babae ang nakikipag-break sa akin,” says JM.
He’s good looking and talented. Why do girls dump him? “I don’t know,” he says with a shrug. “But I learned something from each experience at yun ang dahilan why I was able to relate with my role in’That Thing Called Tadhana’ effectively.”
If Angelica doesn’t have John Lloyd Cruz in her life right now, would he fall for her? “Honestly, sa tingin ko, wala naman po sigurong hindi magkakagusto kay Angelica. But I don’t think magkakalakas ako ng loob na manligaw sa kanya dahil ang feeling ko, hindi naman niya ako sasagutin.”
How did he feel when Angelica confessed that she didn’t initially like him as her leading man and even asked: “Wala na bang iba?”
“Okay lang po. Basag. But I can’t blame her kasi hindi naman niya ako talaga kilala at siguro, marami pa po talaga akong kailangang i-prove. Ako mismo, star struck noong una kaming magkasama. Intimidated. But as the shooting went on, naging okay naman kami.”So how is he now and Jessy? “We’re friends again. After dumalo ako sa birthday niya last September, nag-communicate kami uli at madalas kaming nagkakausap.”
So, is there a possibility of them having a second time around? “Hindi ko po alam. Siguro puede, puede ring hindi. Open naman po ako, but right now, I’m just happy na busy ako with work. I’m doing two new movies right now, ‘Imbisibol’, about hostos in Japan with Allen Dizon, directed by Law Fajardo, and ‘Papa’s Boy’, a gay movie, kasama ko sina Benjie Paras at Edgar Allan Guzman.”
