Kuh Ledesma To Do Valentine Show And Write Book Celebrating Her 35th Anniversary In Showbiz

KUH LEDESMA will be very busy this year. First, she has a Valentine concert with the Music and Magic at the Solaire Theatre on February 14, “The Music of the Heart, The Magic of Love”. Then she’ll be in the cast of a new soap on GMA-7. “But sorry, hindi pa puede i-reveal ang details,” she says.

Then she’s releasing a new album which she calls the “Ikaw” album. “Kasi I’ll be singing all songs na may ‘Ikaw’ sa title, like ‘Ikaw ang Lahat sa Akin’, ‘Ikaw ang Aking Pangarap Ka’, and others, mostly ginagamit na wedding songs.”

Then she’ll have a U.S. tour of several cities. Later this year, she’ll have a big concert (“possibly at Araneta Coliseum”) to celebrate her 35th anniversary as a solo artist. In time for that, she’ll also release a book which she herself is writing, tentatively titled “35 Only”, chronicling her years as a singer and actress. “I’ve collected a lot of pictures since the start of my career so maraming photos. Para makita ng mga kabataan ngayon how much hard work I put into my career at ma-realize nilang kailangan talagang magtrabaho ka. After that, I also want to write a book on strong Christian women, like Coney Reyes and Maricel Laxa. I don’t want to be stagnant as a Christian.”

How does she feel when people bash her for evangelizing during her shows? “The Lord has really been very good to me. Before, hindi ako makatulog. My mind is too active, I always think about my career, how to stay on top. But when I surrendered my life to the Lord, I can sleep na. I just tell Him, o Lord, give me new ideas and tell me what to do tomorrow na, ha. I now have so much joy and peace that money cannot buy. Masipag akong magdasal and the Lord always answers my prayers kaya sobrang blessed ako. I feel part ng assignment ko yung sharing the Lord, my faith, with people kasi that is how I express my love for my neighbor and for God. And I try to live what I share. When my husband Louie and I parted, sabi ko, papalitan ko agad yan. And I did. I fell in love. Don’t ask na lang about the details. But when I met the Lord, I realized I’m committing adultery so I ended it at humingi rin ako ng tawad sa Panginoon.”

So she’s not anymore looking for love? “I told the Lord na kung may ipakikilala Siyang bago sa akin, He should help me discern kung para sa akin na talaga. Kasi kung hindi naman, huwag na lang dalhin sa akin para ligaw-ligawan ako. I want to remain pure for God kasi marami akong pinagdarasal.”

Kuh is very happy to be reunited anew with her Music and Magic colleagues. “We had our first reunion at PICC in October. Nataon, may bagyo. We were so worried. Baka walang dumating. We started late kasi people kept on calling to say they’re stuck in heavy traffic. But they came, and they’re requesting for another show so, heto, magkakasama kami uli on Valentine’s Day.”

Singing with her are Jet Montelibano, Fe de los Reyes, Eva Caparas, Toto Gentica, Hector Pedero, Butch Elizalde, Nonoy Mendoza, Bobby Taylo, Vicky Pangilinan and Jeannette Trevias, plus newcomer Jack Salud. “I’m so glad to work with them again. May history na kasi kami kaya iba yung chemistry namin. They’re all very professional and very dedicated and excited pa rin kami to work with each other. Aside from the dance hits and power ballads we did before, we’ll be having new songs like John Legend’s ‘All of Me’, Pharell Williams’ ‘Happy’ and from ‘Frozen’, ‘Let It Go’. Of course, I’ll also sing my own hits and songs from my last album, ‘Moments’.”
