AFTER THE same sex beach wedding of Aiza Seguerra and Liza Dino, the first heterosexual wedding this year in showbiz is that of Saab Magalona, who turned 26 on November 26. She’s the second daughter of talent manager Pia Arroyo and the late Francis M, younger sister to Maxene and Frank, elder sister to Elmo and Arkin, who are all into acting like her. Saab is Maria Isabella Simone in real life and she has acted in various GMA soaps, like “Koreana”, “Hindi Ka na Mag-iisa”, “My Beloved”, “Forever” and “Adarna”, and “Lipgloss” for TV5.
The groom is musician Jeremiah Tanseco Bacarro, 27, nicknamed Jim. They tied the knot at the St. Ignatius church inside the Philippine Military Academy in Baguio last Saturday afternoon. Jim proposed to Saab in March last year while they were on vacation in Japan with the Magalonas. They both belong to the rock band called Cheats, where Saab is a vocalist and Jim is the guitarist, keyboardist and also does vocals. They’ve been officially together for three years now but have actually known each other for ten years.
Maxene is Saab’s maid of honor. The bridesmaids are Megan and Lauren Young, good friends of Saab, and Saab’s youngest sister, Clara. There are ten groomsem and among them are Saab’s brothers Frank, Elmo and Arkin. There are six principals sponsors and the only ones from showbiz are Michael V and “Eat Bulaga” exec Malou Choa-Fagar. Saab’s wedding gown was made by her good friend Sassa Jimenez while those of the bridesmaids were by Eric de los Santos. Jim’s suit is by Ziggy Savella.
Both Saab and Jim chose to have a simple wedding. “It’s not about the wedding, it’s about the marriage,” they say.
And it’s so true. You can have the grandest of weddings but it doesn’t mean your marriage will automatically be successful. Jim and Saab took the marriage preparation program with our group at the Discovery Weekend last November at OMI Retreat House, so they know what they are getting into. Saab even generously volunteered to be the moderator of their batch’s Facebook page. Here’s wishing them a truly meaningful, fulfilling and happy marriage that will last a lifetime.
Also officially engaged is Bossa Nova Queen and Icon, Sitti Navarro. She will tie the knot on May 29 with her non-showbiz boyfriend, Joey Ramirez. Our best wishes to Sitti and Joey.
