Director Mae Cruz Says Kathniel Love Team A Revelation In Their New Movie, 'Crazy Beautiful You'

DANIEL PADILLA and Kathryn Bernardo star in their latest movie, “Crazy Beautiful You”, along with Lorna Tolentino and Gabby Concepcion. How is it different from their last hit, “She’s Dating the Gangster”, where it was the senior love team of Richard Gomez and Dawn Zulueta who supported them?

“’Gangster’ is based on a Wattpad series while ‘Crazy Beautiful You’ is an original story,” says Kathryn. “Sa ‘Gangster’ din, we have two generations of lovers. Now, the story is more real and mas makaka-relate ang viewers.”

“Binaligtad din ang sitwasyon namin,” says Daniel. “Before, ako yung rich boy na maangas at may problema sa parents niya. This time, si Kathryn ang rich spoiled girl na nagrerebelde sa parents niya.”

Kath plays Jackie, the daughter of Lorna Tolentino and Dante Pascual. Her parents separated when she was 7 years old and she grew up alienated from her mother, a doctor. After having a brush with the law, Lorna takes her to Capas, Tarlac where she is having a medical mission in a community of indigent native Aetas. This is where she meets Kiko, played by Daniel, the illegitimate son of the town mayor, Gabby Concepcion. Kiko teaches her to be more sensible and down to earth. As may be expected, they fall for each other. They shot the movie on location for three weeks in Capas, with Mae Cruz-Alviar directing.


Kathniel was directed on film and TV by Cathy Molina. It’s the first time for Direk Mae to handle them. How is her experience? “What a revelation,” she says. “Now I understand why they got to where they are now as the number one teen love team. They’re not just a love team na kakikiligan mo but they also have so much to give as actors. Hindi sila nagpahuli sa senior stars na kasama nila and, definitely, malayo ang marating nila sa pag-arte.”
