Gov. Vilma Santos Outshines Own Son Luis Manzano When They Both Sang In 'ASAP' 10th Anniversary Show

CONGRATULATIONS to Gov. Vilma Santos for her successful vocal performance in the 20th anniversary presentation of “ASAP”. At the retrospective showing her restored films at UP Film Institute, she told us: “Abangan n’yo ang guesting ko sa ASAP 20th anniversary, huh. Kakanta ako nang live. Huwag kayong tumawa. At least ako, kapag kumanta, binabayaran nang live.”
In all fairness to her, she was able to sing her two songs well, “Top of the World” of the Carpenters, and her duet of “I Will Survive” with Alex Gonzaga. She not only sang but also danced, and she never went out of tune, unlike her son Luis Manzano who was disintunado.
Before she sang with Alex, she even joked with ABS-CBN boss Charo Santos Concio: “Ma’am Charo, bayad na ito, ha. Gusto kong ipaalam sa inyo na kahit ganito ang boses na ito, bayad po ito!” and she laughed heartily then nominated Charo to be the next one to sing in the show’s Karaoke portion.
Tonight, Wednesday at 7 PM, the restored version of Gov. Vi’s movie with Ate Guy, “T Bird at Ako”, directed by the late Danny Zialcita, will be shown at UP Films Institute. We’re sure their diehard fans, the Vilmanians and Noranians, will be there in full force to support their respective idols who no doubt hold the record as the movie queens whose avid fans has the most intense and longest rivalry in the entire history of local cinema.
