John Lloyd Cruz Takes Risk In Doing An Out-Of-The-Box Movie Meant To Be An Entry In The Next Cannes International Filmfest

JOHN LLOYD CRUZ obviously wants to be taken seriously as an actor. For his first movie after the renewal of his contract with ABS-CBN, instead of doing the usual hit rom-coms where he excels, he now chooses to do an out-of-the-box movie directed by Erik Matti, tentatively titled “Fonzy”.
And guess who his leading lady is. Instead of the big leading ladies he used to work with in Star Cinema, like Bea Alonzo and Sarah Geronimo, he is now paired with Meryll Soriano, who gets her biggest break in this movie.
Shooting has already started and we heard they’re rushing it so they can send it as an entry to the Cannes International Filmfest this coming May. Erik Matti’s “On the Job” was an official entry in Cannes three years ago and it won several actor trophies for Joel Torre. Obviously, John Lloyd is hoping that “Fonzy” will be his ticket to international acclaim and give him the chance to attend the prestigious Cannes Filmfest where Piolo Pascual and Gerald Anderson also joined Direk Erik on the red carpet during their movie’s premiere. Good luck!
