New Travel Show On ABS-CBN Sports Action Channel, 'Kool Trip, Backpackers Edition' Aims To Explore Our Country's Undiscovered Places

JAYSON GAINZA used to host a travel show with Uma, Franzen and Kath, “Trip na Trip”, which ended four years ago. Now, he’s the co-host of a new one, “Kool Trip, Backpackers Edition”, shown Saturdays at 6:30 AM on ABS-CBN Sports-Action, former Studio 23. His co-hosts are Negros Occidental Cong. Albee Benitez, who’s chairman of the House Committee on Housing and Urban Development, and Marjorie Cornillez, a model-enterpreneur who has hosted other travel shows since 2010 like “Pinoy In Focus”. Cong. Albee is the son of PWU’s first male president, Conrado “Jolly” Benitez, who just had a kidney transplant. Jayson will provide the laughs and entertainment in the show.

In its first season, they will feature undiscovered places in Luzon, like the Kapurpuruan Rock Formations in Ilocos and the Cathedral Cave in Palawan. “To give our show a different dimension, we talk to mayors, governors and other officials in the places we visit so they can improve on their infrastructure to attract more tourists to visit their place,” says Cong. Albee, who’s married to wife Nicky and devoted dad to their two kids, Javi and Bettina.

How did he become part of the show? “I was a guest in one of the shows Marjorie hosted before, then she offered me to be a co-host dito nga sa ‘Kool Trip’. So accidental lang ang pagiging co-host ko rito and now I’m enjoying it.”

In their next episodes, they’ll explore Baler, Cagayan Valley, Oriental Mindoro and Sagada. On February 28, their episode on Coron, Palawan is directed by Albert Martinez. They will give tips to those who travel with limited means on how they can maximize their trips with a reasonable budget. For their second season, they will feature the Visayas and later, Mindanao. So start travelling while seated right inside the comfort of your own home with the coolest travel show in town, “Kool Trip”.
