Oscar Awards Results: We're Glad 'Birdman' Won As Best Picture But Sad That Its Star Failed To Win As Best Actor

WE’RE GLAD it’s “Birdman” that won as best picture and its creator Alejandro Innaritu is best director. Of all the entries, it’s the one that is pure cinema. Pelikulang-pelikula talaga ang dating, from the camera work to the storytelling. It will really make you think as there are scenes where you have to figure if what’s happening on screen is real or just a figment of the lead character’s imagination.
Its main rival, “Boyhood”, is unique only because it was filmed in a span of 12 years, chronicling the personal story of the boy who’s its lead character. But when you watch the movie, it doesn’t really offer anything special. So much boringa factor. Even the boy was so cute at 6 years old but at 18, what happened, he got ugly!
But we’re sad that Michael Keaton didn’t get the best actor Oscar. Keaton has the more demanding role, from start to finish. Maybe academy voters don’t like him personally. Also, Oscar voters really prefer actors with infirmities, like Daniel Day Lewis in “My Left Foot”, Dustin Hoffman in “Rainman”, Cliff Robertson in “Charley”, the lisping Colin Firth in “King’s Speech”, etc. Eddie Redmayne truly gives a heartrending and sympathetic portrayal of wheelchair-bound scientist Stephen Hawking in “The Theory of Everything”, but he’s young. He’ll have the chance to be nominated again in the future. But not for his horrible performance as the villain in “Jupiter Ascending”.

Keaton has paid his dues being the more veteran actor between them and we doubt if he’d ever get another role as challenging as “Birdman”. If it’s any consolation for him, Oscar voters can really be dumb. Imagine Redmayne being nominated for the first time where as the likes of more experienced thespians as Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Cruise have been nominated several times but have yet to actually win.
