REGINE VELASQUEZ and her family did their “babang luksa” last Monday on the 1st death anniversary of her dad Mang Gerry’s passing. They had a mass and visited his resting place. We ask Regine’s reaction to the allegation of some people that her beautiful relationship with her husband Ogie Alcasid’s ex-wife, Michelle Van Eimeren, is phony and just for appearances.
“For me, it doesn’t really matter kung ano ang sasabihin ng ibang tao,” she says. "It doesn’t matter what they say or what they think. We’re not bothered by it. Bakit ka naman maba-bother kung alam mo naman kung ano ang totoo? But I have to say na marami rin ang nae-encourage na yung relationship namin is actually working. Hindi naman yun naging madalli. It was a very difficult start for all us, but Ogie worked really hard for our family to work together. It’s for the sake of the children. Kasi sa paghihiwalay ng mag-asawa, scarred na sila. The main reason why we’re trying to be a family is because we want for them to feel whole, to feel complete. Because hindi mo na mapupunan kung ano yung natanggal. No amount of money, gift, alahas na puwede mong ibigay sa mga bata para i-spare sa emptiness na iniwan nun. Bilib din ako kay Michelle. She’s a really wonderful person being able to give, accept. Palagi nga naming sinasabi, it works for us, buo ang family namin. And people will say, 'You know, your children are very blessed, because they have two sets of parents.'”
Regine is very happy to do “Ultimate”, her Valentine concert with Martin Nievera, Gary Valenciano and Lani Misalucha at MOA Arena on February 13 and 14. “I’ve worked with them individually but this is the first time all of us are appearing together on the same stage.”
Does she feel there’s a rivalry among them? “Wala na, uso pa ba yun? Ang tanda na namin, huwag na kaming mag-imarte. It’s the audience who’ll benefit kasi, ‘eto, talagang may bosesan, yung foursome, kasi may bosesan kami. At kapag pinagsama mo yung mga boses namin, it’ll really be something, di ba? It’ll really be a memorable evening of great music na baka hindi na maulit pa kasi mahirap talaga kami pagsamahing apat.”
Tickets for the “Ultimate” Valentine concert are available at SM Ticket outlets, 470-2222 and Star Media, 854-3300/901-4562.
