OUR CONDOLENCES to Albert Martinez for the passing of his wife, Liezl Sumilang-Martinez, who had a long fight with the big C and finally departed in her sleep at Medical City Mandaluyong last Saturday morning. After her operation for breast cancer, she underwent stem cell therapy in 2012 and this apparently helped lengthen her life.
Our sympathies also to Liezl’s mom, Amalia Fuentes, and her dad, Romeo Vasquez; her three children Alyanna, Alfonso and Alessandra; and cousins who are also in showbiz: Aga, Nino and Almira Muhlach.
Born on March 27, 1967, Liezl was a former child star and did several movies like “Portrait of an Angel” in 1971, “Poor Little Rich Girl” in 1972, and “Liezl and the Seven Hoods” in 1973. She eloped with Albert in 1984 and they lived for a while in the States. Their eldest daughter Alyanna was born on Dec. 3, 1985. They eventually returned home and Albert successfully resumed his acting career. Liezl later became a member of the Movie Television Review & Classification Board. Let’s all pray for the repose of her soul.
