CARLO GONZALEZ is thankful that the role of Sunshine Dizon’s good for nothing husband, Simon, in GMA-7’s hit soap “Pari ‘Koy”, was assigned to him. “I’ve done several soaps before,” he says. “Usually, best friend ako ng bida, so I can say this is my most demanding role so far kasi he's a dark character. Talagang na-challenged ako rito nang husto at sabi nila, nailabas talaga nito ang pagka-aktor ko. I’d like to thank Sunshine as my battered wife kasi sobrang husay niya so you have to give your best in every scene para makasabay ka sa galing niya. Napakahirap sa’kin ng scenes na sinasaktan ko siya kasi I was reared to be respectful of women at never akong nanakit ng babae. First time ko rin to do a father role dahil anak namin dito si Jillian Ward. Sa sobrang sama ko rito, pati korona ng Blessed Virgin sa simbahan, ninakaw ko pa kaya nagalit sa akin ang mga tao sa Barangay Pinagpala.”
Lately, though, his character is going through a transition. “I’m really thankful to our director, Maryo J. de los Reyes, dahil he helps me in interpreting my character well. Matapos akong mahuli sa pagnanakaw sa crown ng virgin, nakulong ako, nagsisi at pinatawad ni Dingdong Dantes as Fr. Kokoy who even protected me to the people who tried to lynch me, led by Ms. Chanda Romero.”
Off cam, Carlo has been on with TV host Luanne Dy for some years now. Don’t they have any plans of following on the footsteps of his cousin Dingdong Dantes who faced the altar with Marian Rivera a few months ago? “Naku, wala pa kaming plano. Dapat na paghandaan muna naming mabuti yan.”
This week in “Pari ‘Koy”, we will see flashbacks of Dingdong as a young man, to be played by Alden Richards. This will show his life before he entered the priesthood and his being very close to his mom, Jackielou Blanco. Playing his dad is Spanky Manikan and child actor Joshua Uy plays his young brother Sam, who’s currently played by Hiro Peralta as a closet gay.
Meantime, the cute boy Pinggoy (David Remo) becomes a complete orphan when his foster mom dies. He cries inconsolably and wants to jump into his mom’s grave during the funeral, but Dingdong as Fr. Kokoy tells him his mom is now with the Lord. Dingdong wants to officially adopt Pinggoy but he is told that priests are not allowed to be foster dads. He also learns that the son of Gabby Eigenmann, the barangay captain, is suffering from leukemia.
