CHYNNA ORTALEZA didn't have second thoughts accepting her role as an out and out butch in GMA-7's "The Rich Man's Daughter". "I've played the role of a lesbian before, but in a movie with Nora Aunor, 'Hustisya'," she says. "Mukhang babae pa rin ako roon. This time, sa role ko as Batchi, mukhang lalaki talaga ako. Sa pagkilos, sa pananamit, sa lahat, kailangang lalaki ang projection ko. Kaya nga, pinagupitan ko na nang maikling-maikli ang buhok ko in preparation for the start of our taping. Puede namang dayain at mag-wig na lang ako, pero ayoko, gusto ko yung totoo lahat ng gagawin. With my new hairstyle, ang dami nang nagsabing ang pogi ko raw."
She took an immersion program with the lesbian group Woman on Top to make sure she's prepared for the role. She took the immersion program with two other actresses who'll also do lesbian roles, Katrina Halili and Glaiza de Castro. They were even invited to the group's very exclusive event at Oasis Bar after their immersion program.
"I'm also banking on our director, Dominic Zapata, to help me out in my interpretation of my role para sigurado akong magawa ko ito nang tama. Puro matitinik pa naman ang mga kasama ko rito, from the leads Marian Rivera, Glaiza, Katrina, Luis Alandy, Mike Tan hanggang sa support like Tita Gloria Romero and Tito Al Tantay. To say that I'm excited with this project will be an understatement."
Chynna also plans to cultivate a career behind the camera. She has worked as assistant director to the music video of new singer Rye Sarmiento for a song called "Umay".
