KIM CHIU turned 25 last April 19 and she had a big birthday celebration at “ASAP”. “It was a long day for me kasi I also had a grand fans’ day then may launching ako ng new album ko sa Eastwood,” she says. “I was able to appreciate the support of my fans dahil 7 AM pa lang, nakalinya na sila sa arawan at nagka-sunburn tuloy sila.”
Copies of her new album, “Chinita Princess”, was sold out at the Eastwood launch. This is her second album, the first one being “Gua Ai Di”.
“Di ko naman pinangarap na maging singer pero, naka-gold and platinum yun, ha. It’s my fans who asked na mag-album na uli ako kasi the first one was in 2007 pa. Eight years ago na, nung bago pa lang ako sa showbiz. Nagkaroon ako ng confidence na maglabas uli ng album dahil I really sing sa U.S. and Canada tours namin, with me playing the guitar. Binigyan naman ng katuparan ng Star Music with ‘Chinita Princess’.”
So how is this different from her first album? “Wala nang Chinese song dito. Also, kung ano ang laman ng album ko, yun ang state of mind ko ngayon. Ang songs ko rito, puro positive lang. Ayoko na ng mga lungkut-lungkutan.”
She started the program at her album launch singing live the song “Mr. Right”. To whom does she dedicate the song? “Siempre, sa kung sino ang malapit sa akin ngayon, si Xian (Lim.) Sana nga, siya na si Mr. Right sa buhay ko. My album has six songs. Five are original at isa lang ang revival, ‘Wala Man Sa’Yo ang Lahat’. May song na rin ako para sa bashers ko, ‘Say We Don’t Care’. May song din sa na-heartbroken, ‘Someday’, pero may positive message na kahit nasaktan ka, it’s not the end of the world, may pag-asa pang magmahal ka uli.”
How will she describe herself now? “I’m very happy, contented. I can really say I’m blessed.” What’s the secret of her being happy? “It’s in my song ‘Express Yourself’, which says you should not just stay inside but go out of your comfort zone to explore and learn how to be happy. Another great song is ‘Darating Din’ which says maghintay ka lang dahil darating din ang magandang kapalaran para sa’yo. Kasama sa album lahat ng minus ones ng six songs dito.”
It’s common knowledge that her ex-BF, Gerald Anderson, has broken up with Maja Salvador, with whom she had a rift then. What can she say about this? “Actually, wala na ako, labas na po ako diyan. What happened between them, that’s their decision. They’re asking for respect and privacy and they deserve it naman, so let’s just give it to them. Kasi siyempre, hindi madali ang pinagdaraanan nila. But I’m sure malalampasanan nila yan if they remain strong, kasi everything happens for a reason.”
She herself went through this when Gerald split from her. "I believe na God allows a heartbreak to happen kasi it makes you a better person. Kapag nalampasan mo 'yan, you will be two times or ten times happier dahil nagawa mong tumayo ka uli."
“Chinita Princess” is now available at all record bars nationwide for only P199.
