KARYLLE is the most visible and active performer in “The Next Attraction”, the concert that she’ll do at Music Museum on July 4, 8 PM, with Robin Nievera, Paulo Valenciano and Isabella. She has already made a name for herself in showbiz, what with her being a host in daily noontime show, “Showtime”, on ABS-CBN. She has recorded several albums, acted in movies, stage musicals, TV shows and has even gone international in the Asian TV show, “The Kitchen Musical”.
Like Robin Nievera who didn’t want to be in the shadow of his more famous parents, she never dreamt of being a singer like her mom, Zsa Zsa Padilla. “I was painfully shy as a child. I have some personal issues and it was a long process for me before I decided to try singing. All the while, I thought I’d rather be a ballerina because I know it’d be very hard to follow in the footsteps of my very successful mom. In college, I started by taking up dentistry like my dad, in UP. It was my dad who told me, you’re singing in every debut of your friends, you should seriously consider going into singing. I was also part of the music ministry in Poveda and I sing the responsorial psalm. It was not until my voice teacher told me that I have the same voice quality as my mom that I felt better. I’ve come to terms with our similarities. My mom is turning 51 on May 28 (yesterday) and what she said once further encouraged me: ‘Parang computer ang second generation. It’s an upgrade.’ I was 18 then and that’s when I seriously considered going into singing.”
She’s excited to perform with Robin, Paulo and Isabella in “The Next Attraction”. “We all grew up together and more or less had the same issues as the children of very famous parents, which is not exactly normal. It’s sometimes a challenge but it’s special and it’s actually fun. Kaya we really became very, very good friends.”
Karylle is happily married to Sponge Cola vocalist Yael Yuzon for over a year now. She says he has a positive influence on her. “Sumasama ko sa gigs ng band nila, even abroad like in the Middle East. He encourages me to be more productive and write more songs. We even collaborate in composing new songs.”
Marian Rivera, wife of her ex, is now preggy. How about her? “I am actually ready, anytime! Pag sinabi ni Lord na it’s time na, darating naman siguro ‘yung baby! So ready lang ako. For me, I’m just trying be even healthier para maging healthy rin ang baby when I conceive na.”
Is it true her mom has secretly married BF Conrad Onglao? “No, it’s not. I’m sure kung totoo yon, she would have told us ng sisters ko kasi okay lang naman yun for us. E, wala naman siyang sinasabi. As far as I know, ni hindi pa sila officially engaged.”
