Allen Dizon Gains Prestige & Respectability After Winning 3 International And 4 Local Best Actor Awards For 'Magkakabaung'

ALLEN DIZON just won his 7th best actor award in the recent Gawad Urian for his role as the grieving father who's feeling guilty over the accidental death of his only daughter due to self medication in "Magkakabaung". He has previously won three international awards for the same role in the 9th Harlem International Filmfest in New York, the 3rd Hanoi International Filmfest in Vietnam and the 3rd Silk Road Filmfest in Ireland. Locally, aside from the Urian, he also won in the Metro Manila Filmfest New Wave Category, the 13th Gawad Tanglaw and the 17th Gawad Pasado. We're sure more trophies will be coming his way as the film is also an entry in the Salento International Filmfest in Italy this coming September.

Allen has really come a long way since he joined the Ginoong Pilipinas in 1998. "After that, nag-audition ako sa Regal at nakuha ako sa 'Curacha' ni Direk Chito Rono, my very first movie. Then sunod-sunod na yung ginawa kong sexy movies with Aya Medel, Hazel Espinosa at yung 'Pila Balde' with Anna Capri. Nag-artista lang ako noon para magkapera, kasi gusto kong matulungan ang mother ko na nabiyuda when I was only 12 years old. Kaya lang, very religious siya, araw-araw nagsisimba. So nang lumabas na ang sexy movies at pictorials ko, naiskandalo siya. I had to sit down with her and explain na part yung ng job ko. Naintindihan naman niya at ngayon, siya ang unang very proud sa awards na napapanalunan ko. Karamihan ng mga kasabay ko noon, wala na. Suwerte nga ako dahil active pa rin ako up to now. Big blessing na nakatawid ako from sexy movies at ngayon, nare-represent ko pa ang country natin in film festivals abroad at nakakapag-uwi ako ng karangalan dito. But somehow, nakakalungkot din na kahit nananalo ng awards ang movies ko, hindi naipapalabas ito sa regular theaters like mainstream films. Gaya ng 'Magkakabaung', which is a Kapampangan movie, ni hindi pa ito naitatanghal sa Pampanga kaya gusto namin itong i-release sa mga sinehan doon dahil I'm sure my kababayans will be proud of it, lalo't kinunan ito nang buo on location sa San Matias, the casket capital in our country. Biro mo, pelikulang Kapampangan, nakilala na sa ibang bansa. It's about time mapanood naman nila ito dahil hindi lang ako ang naipanalo ng pelikulang ito kundi pati si Emilio Garcia as best supporting actor in France, si Gladys Reyes as best supporting actress sa Urian and si Direk Jason Laxamana as best director."

Allen has surely gain prestige and respectability as one of our best actors today. He will next be seen on the big screen in another challenging role as a priest who gets Diana Zubiri pregnant and is later accused of killing Ricky Davao in "Iadya Mo Kami", directed by Mel Chionglo who previously helmed him in "Lauriana". On TV, he's back doing a teleserye with ABS-CBN after "The Princess and I". He'll soon start taping "Doble Kara", directed by Manny Palo and starring Julia Montes. He'll likewise soon start another film under Direk Joel Lamangan who have given him best actor awards for "Dukot". This time, they will do a movie about security guards, "Sekyu", with Sunshine Dizon and Gladys Reyes.
