MARK NEUMANN is beaming brightly when TV5 hosted a special lunch for him at Mario's just to announce that the ratings of "Baker King", where the plays the title role, went higher when he started appearing last week as Tak Gu."Nakakatuwa naman," he says. "And when people see me in public now, Tak Gu na ang tawag nila sa akin. It means nagmarka talaga yung role. Thanks din sa TV5 sa promo nila with all the billboards around. Sobrang natutuwa nga ako and feel quite proud when I see myself as Baker King sa billboards pati sa likod ng mga bus."
Not only that, he is so happy to know that he is nominated in two categories of Peplist Awards: as Editor's Choice Breakout Star of the Year and Pepster's choice Male Teen Star of the Year. "Even if I wouldn't win, happy na ako kasi it means napansin naman pala nila ako. But siempre, I'd be happier kung may mapapanalunan ako kahit isang award lang. But win or lose, we're sure to go there ng ka-love team ko, si Shaira Mae who's also nominated as Female Teen Star dahil we will do a dance number sa awards night at Solaire. Bawat network daw, may representative na love team and we will represent TV5."
What can say to comments that Akihiro Blanco is a better actor than him? "Okay lang. I admit naman na may struggle pa ko with my Tagalog lines. Also, as the kontrabida, mas maangas yung role ni Aki kaysa akin, kaya mas marami rin siyang intense drama scenes. Ako, mas lighter ang scenes ko sa umpisa at mas napasabak ako sa action scenes dahil basagulero si Tak Gu. But this coming week, abangan nyo dahil may dramatic scene ako na totoong luha ko talaga ang tumulo from my eyes. Parang gripo, but walang vicks or eye mo yun, ha. This is the scene where I discover that Ian de Leon was the one who kidnapped my mother, Diana Zubiri, at umiiyak akong tinanong siya kung ano ang ginawa niya sa mother ko. Pareho kaming umiiyak sa eksena as he says hindi rin niya alam what happened to my mother. I also have to thank Direk Mac Alejandre dahil inaalagaan talaga niya ang bawat eksena and he specifies kung ano ang gusto niyang mangyari."
For his dramatic scenes, Mark put himself into the shoes of his character and also taught of his own mom, a Croatian who died when he was only five years old. His dad has since remarried and he's quite close to his stepmom. "I have three younger half siblings with them and they're all happy about 'Baker King' that they watch online. Someday, when I'm earning more, I plan to invite all of them to visit me here."
Is it true he now has two cars given by a gay benefactor? "Naku, not true. I only have one car. It's a Ford Everest that I bought from my earnings when I did 'Confessions of a Torpe'. I don't even drive yet. My handler drives for me. Right now, nakikitira lang ako with an uncle, so ang next plan ko is to buy my own condo na malapit lang sa TV5 studio sa Reliance St. para hindi ako mahirapan when I go to work. I won't be surprised na kung mabili ko yun, may magsasabi na namang regalo lang sa'kin. I'm really working very hard. Halos wala na nga akong tulog, so wag naman silang mag-isip ng masama sa akin."
"Baker King" airs on TV5 weeknight at 9:30 PM, after "Wattpad Presents".
