PRINCESS PUNZALAN is currently in town to play Lily, the sister of Alessandra de Rossi as Lulu in "Yagit" who she has worked with before in "Kung Mawawala Ka". We visited her on her first taping day on the set in Antipolo and she's as amiable as ever. "Parang nanganganay uli ako, but I really missed acting," she says. "Balikbayan lawyer ako rito. I returned kasi my sister was arrested dahil sa krimeng ginawa niya sa mga yagit at tutulungan ko siya. In the process, I get involved with the other characters in the story like Yasmien Kurdi and James Blanco, who I haven't worked with before. Actually, I'm not here for 'Yagit' but for an advocacy movie of Director Cesar Buendia, 'Panginoong Diyos-Diyosan', that aims to open the eyes of voters about politicians in our country. Kaya lang, na-postpone ang shoot ng movie so tama lang na dumating naman ang offer ng GMA to do 'Yagit' at hindi nasayang ang pag-uwi ko rito."
Princess is now happily settled in Sta. Monica, L.A. with her husband, Jay Field. "We met thru a mutual friend na pinag-blind date kami. He was then working here in Manila. When we met, wala namang spark but I realized he's a very respectable guy. Eventually, naging kami and we got married in 2005 in Boracay. That year, he returned to the U.S. at sumama na ko sa kanya. He actually came to my life at the right time kasi I want to really settle down and start a new chapter in my life."
She studied nursing and now works in a hospital during weekends. "Monday to Friday, my husband goes to work. Ako naman kung weekends kasi kailangan may maiwan sa daughter namin, si Ellie. Kasama ko nga ang anak namin sa pag-uwi ko rito. Susunod na lang ang husband ko. We live here with my brother Paulo and his family."
She had to adjust to her life in the U.S. "Siempre, dito, sanay akong pinagsisilbihan. Doon, we ourselves do everything. It's good mabait yung husband ko. Madaling kausap, very open, so I can't complain. Ten years na kami. Pati sa trabaho ko, I'm the one who renders service. Minsan, yung mga Pilipino patients, they tell me, you look like an actress in the Philippines. Kasi ang name ko roon is my real name, Bernadette Field. Pag di ako masyadong busy, I tell them, ako po yun. At yun, magpapa-picture na. Nagugulat yung mga kasamahan kong puti kung bakit nagpapakuha sa'kin ng pictures yung mga ibang Pinoy roon kasi di naman nila alam na artista ako rito sa Pilipinas."
Princess will appear in "Yagit" starting Wednesday and she'll be here in Manila until July 11.
