How did he feel when Vic Sotto became Pauleen's new BF? "I think she really goes for mature men. Kasi kami, 15 years ang age difference namin. So I was not surprise nang naging sila ni Vic. I think I'd be more surprised if kaparehong edad niya or mas bata sa kanya ang magiging boyfriend niya. Kasi she's really more mature than her age kaya mas gusto niya ng more mature partner."
There's talk that Pauleen and Vic will soon face the altar. Will he agree to be a ninong? "Maimbitahan lang ako sa wedding or sa reception, malaking bagay na. Kung bibigyan ako ng ibang role like ninong, it's really a privilege."
A graduate of Boston University majoring in finance and operation management, Sherwin is the eldest of the four sons of Plastics King William Gatchalian. His brother Rex is the mayor of Valenzuela while Wes is congressman of the Alay Buhay Partylist. Only one is not in politics, Kenneth, who's helping their dad in their family business.
Sherwin admits he plans to run for the senate under the NPC (Nationalist People's coalition). Does he think he's ripe for the senate? "I've been in public service for 15 years now," he says. "I was Valenzuela City Mayor for three terms and now, I'm a congressman. I think I have enough experience to serve in the national government. My advocacies include improvement in education like the Free Higher Education act, in our public transportation system, Metro-Manila Development and I'm anti-hazing."
At 41, Sherwin remains to be one of the country's most eligible bachelors. Who are his crushes in showbiz now? "First is Iza Calzado. I admire her beauty and her talent. Also, may half brother siya sa Valenzuela na pinag-aaral niya. Napakabait niya sa kapatid niya. Among the younger stars, it's Liza Soberano. Nakikita ko kasi, ang ganda-ganda niya."
