CHERIE GIL has joined the cast of GMA-7’s hit afternoon soap, “The Half Sisters”, after Aljur Abrenica guested in the recent special episodes shot in Japan. She will be playing the role Magnolia McBride, the prodigal daughter of the kind philanthropist, Elizabeth McBride played by Gloria Romero. Gloria was the one who left all her wealth as inheritance to Jean Garcia as Rina.
Now, her daughter comes back from abroad to claim all the property she left behind to Jean. So watch out when sparks fly in the feisty confrontation scenes between Cherie (best known as Lavinia Arguelles of “Bituing Walang Ninging”) and Jean (best known as Madam Claudia of the original “Pangako Sa Iyo”). “It’s nice to be back with GMA,” says Cherie. “My last soap with them was ‘Temptation of Wife’ pa two years ago. It’s an honor to be playing the role of the daughter of an icon like Tita Gloria Romero. ‘The Half Sisters’ will also give me the chance to work with my eldest nephew, si Ryan Eigenmann, who’s the contravida in this show. I’m looking forward to be doing many scenes with him.”
Director Mark Reyes says Cherie is the only actress they had in mind when they conceptualized the role of the haughty Magnolia McBride. “Siya lang talaga ang perfect at babagay sa role and we are very thankful that she accepted it,” he adds.
As for Jean Garcia, she’s welcoming Cherie with open arms. “It’s always great to be working with someone of Ms. Cherie’s calibre,” she says. “We all know how good an actress she is at kapapanalo lang niya ng best actress award sa Madrid International Filmfest. I’m sure makakatulong siya para lalong mas dumami ang mga manonood na tututok sa aming show. Abangan nyo na lang ang mga tarayan namin.”
It’s said that “The Half Sisters” will run until mid-September. But if Cherie’s appearance in the show will make it sustain its high ratings, then we won’t be surprised if the show would get another extension since it continues to be one of the topraters of GMA-7, even rating higher than some shows on primetime.
