DIRECTOR MARK MEILY is better known for award-winning films like “Crying Lady” that gave him a Metro Filmfest best director trophy and Sharon Cuneta, a best actress award, and “La Visa Loca” which gave Robin Padilla an Urian best actor award. He now directs his first sitcom, “Misterless Misis”, for Unitel and TV5 that starts airing tonight at 9 PM. This is not his first attempt at comedy since he previously helmed “Camera Cafe” that won best comedy series in Asian TV Awards in Singapore. He also directed “Jasmine” which starred Jasmine Curtis Smith, also on TV5.
“Directing ‘Misterless Misis’ is much more challenging kasi maraming characters na iba-iba ang kuwento,” he says. “Three years na ang project na ito and I’m glad that finally, heto, nagawa na at ipalalabas na. I’m thankful na all out sa budget ang TV5 and we treated it na parang pelikula.”
Is it true his peg for the show is “Sex and the City” and “Desperate Housewives”? “Yun nga ang sabi nila, but magkamukha lang sila in the sense na it’s about women characters. But ibang-iba ang journey ng characters dito kaysa other TV shows and I’m happy na mas napapadali ang trabaho ko as a director dahil puro magagaling ang cast members dito. Lorna Tolentino is a revelation doing comedy as Jenny, a woman abandoned by her groom on their wedding day pero nagagawa niyang katatawan ang mga nangyari sa buhay niya. Si Gelli de Belen, dati nang magaling sa comedy and she proves it once again as Liza, the wife of an OFW in Kuwait na may babae na raw doon. Ruffa Gutierrez fits her role as Diana perfectly, a glamorous and chic single mom. Mitch Valdez shows she’s really a seasoned veteran in making people laugh as Elsa, a new widow who has yet to accept the loss of her husband and who also has to deal with her daughter, played by newcomer Andie Gomez, who’s an overweight single mom. Then there’s Ritz Azul, the only one who’s dalaga pa, sexy but mysterious and innocent. Altogether, these women represent female empowerment in the world today where men often rule kasi ‘Misterless Misis’ will show how they can take charge of their own lives.”
