Never The Strangers Band Offers New Narrative-Based Songs With A New Sound In Their New Album, 'Screenburn'

NEVER THE STRANGERS is the name of a band composed of Atenean musicians and headed by keyboardist Ace Libre. They’ve just released their first album under Universal Records, “Screenburn”. Ace says he formed the band while still in Ateneo High School five years ago. He’s now a college graduate, with a degree in BS communications and technical management.

The band’s other members are guitarist JP del Mundo (management & information technology graduate), bassist Gab Palanca (psychology major) and drummer Nash Ignacio (management engineering graduate). Ace composed most of the songs in their album and he started his fascination with music as a child when he took classical piano lessons and guitar lessons.

“In high school, everyone in my batch was getting into bands so I joined the bandwagon,” he says. “I became very comfortable with the keyboard as it’s easier to play and write songs in it. Having keyboards in a band gives your music a richer texture that can easily grab the listener’s attention. The piano also adds more emotion to a mellow song.”

Their band is now managed by Rico Blanco, who also directed their music videos. Their album “Screenburn” has 12 new original songs: “The Light”, “Mundo”, “Showbiz”, “Machine Heart”, “Bones”, “Tiwala”, “Meant to Be”, “Sabay” (the carrier single), “Elisa”, “OK”, “So Long” and “Glass”. How are their songs different from those of other bands?

“Most songs are usually about love issues and, honestly, nauumay na ako sa songs tungkol sa mga sawing pag-ibig so our album offers something new about other topics like growing up and other relationships that people can appreciate. We try to serve the song and the listener rather than just our egos. People can expect a new sound and the songs are really more narrative-based with a bigger but more nuanced sound.”
The album “Screenburn” from Never the Strangers is now available in record stores and also for downloading online.
