Shaina Magdayao Says Working With Ex-BF John Lloyd Cruz Is No Big Deal As They're Back To Being Friends Now

THERE WAS a time Shaina Magdayao didn’t have a regular show for almost two years. “Yes, naging bakante ako after doing ‘Juan de la Cruz’ in 2013,” she says. “But I was patient. Naghintay ako and ‘Nathaniel’ came early this year, and it’s a hit. Now, hindi pa tapos yun and heto, may bago na uli akong show, ‘Single\Single’, sa Cinema One with Matteo Guidicelli that starts airing on August 29 and will be shown every Saturday at 8 PM for 13 weeks, with repeats on Wednesday and Sunday. I play Joee, who shares an apartment with Matteo Guidicelli who’s named Joey.”

She’s been loveless since John Lloyd Cruz broke up with her in April 2012. They’re now working together in “Nathaniel”. How is it? “We’re okay, we’re friends,” she says. “It’s the first time na nagkatrabaho kami but it’s not the first time na nagkita kami since the breakup dahil maliit lang ang mundo ng showbiz. Ilang Star Magic ball na yung nagkasama kami at sa birthday parties ng mutual friends namin, so it’s not a big deal.”

So it’s okay to maintain friendship with an ex? “I think okay naman ako. Comfortable naman ako sa buhay ko ngayon. I have no hang ups about my past relationship and it’s not good to dwell on the negative. Okay naman ako with everyone.”

How is it working with Matteo in “Single\Single”? “I was excited to work with him kasi never pa kami nagkaroon ng chance to work together, not even in a production number in ‘ASAP’, kasi singer siya and dancer naman ako. Noong una, tinatanong ko, may chemistry ba kami. But our director, Pepe Diokno, said meron, nakakakilig daw kami and we’re funny without even trying. I really like his smile kasi lagi siyang nakangiti, really a happy person. Pero walang dapat ipagselos si Sarah (Geronimo) kasi alam niyang work is work lang ito. ‘Single\ Single’ lang ang title ng show namin but we all know he’s not single anymore. Basta ako, I’m really glad to play my role of Joey kasi she’s more raw, more naughty and funny. Unlike my role in ‘Nathaniel’ na doktor, mabait, wholesome. But leading men in both shows, Matteo and Gerald Anderson, parehong Visayan kaya’t parehong malambing magsalita. Pero mas sexy si Matteo kasi may scenes siya rito na shirtless at naka-boxer shorts lang.”

So when will she have a love life again? “By choice naman po na ayaw ko. So kalma lang po muna. Darating naman tayo diyan sa tamang panahon. Right now, ine-enjoy ko muna ang work at pagiging single ko. Ako kasi, when I’m in love, I become selfless. Mas inuuna ko yung partner ko kaysa sa sarili ko. So this time, sarili ko muna ang inuuna ko, my family, my work, my friends are my world right now.”
