Denise Laurel Acts In 'Nasaan Ka Nang Kailangan Kita', Sings And Dances In 'Your Face Sounds Familiar'

DENISE LAUREL turns 27 on September 30. She considers it a birthday gift that she qualified as one of the 8 celebrity contestants in the new season of “Your Face Sounds Familiar”. “I started as a theatre actress who does singing and dancing in stage musicals,” she says. “That’s how I was discovered by Mr. M (Johnny Manahan of Star Magic, who brought her to ABS). But the last few years, nag-concentrate na ako sa acting. The last time I sang was in ‘ASAP’, when I turned 18 and they greeted me on my birthday in the show. So now, I’m so excited to go back to my musical theatre roots. I hope hindi pa kinakalawang ang pagkanta at pagsasayaw ko para magamit ko nang husto in my production numbers in ‘Your Face Sounds Familiar’.

After I took the audition, akala ko I didn’t make it, so I was so happy when they called me back and told me I made it as a finalist. I’m now very nervous but I know I will face the challenge bravely each weekend.”

Denise is also in the soap “Nasaan Ka Nang Kailangan Kita” where she plays kontrabida to Vina Morales after she snatched Vina’s husband, Christian Vasquez. This means she’s going to be very busy as she’ll do drama in “Nasaan” and then sing and dance in “Your Face”. “I think kakayanin ko naman yan,” she beams. “Good luck na lang sa akin. I need to do this for my son.”

Her love son Alejandro is now four years old. She’s currently engaged to cager Solomon Mercado, to whom her son is very much attached. “I’m sure he’s the one for me, but we’re not rushing into marriage. That can wait while I’m still busy with my career.”

Who does she think is her biggest competitor? “I think it’s comedian Eric Nicolas kasi I saw kung gaano kagaling ang trabaho niya. He’s very dedicated and passionate as a performer kaya yung hindi siya kilala at mapapanood siya for the first time, tiyak na mapapanganga sila at hahanga sa kanya kasi hindi lang siya kumakanta kundi nagpapatawa pa.”
