“Hindi ko kailangang magpasilip ng kahit ano. Kahit nakasando lang ako, I think kaya ko silang talbugan. I saw the lineup at kami ni Elmo (Magalona) ang pinakabata sa sampu, so kami ang magtatayo ng bandera ng GMA doon. First time ko to do something like this, so I’ll do it step by step. Sisimulan ko siguro by showing my abs. Iniisip kong sumayaw ala-Magic Mike kaya lang matigas ang katawan ko, e. Kailangan muna sigurong pakuluan para lumambot,” he laughs.
So does this mean he’s ready to do sexy roles? “I think I am. I can do the roles of Jay Manalo noong araw, na siyang icon noong panahon niya, pero may halong Tom Rodriguez.”
When his character in “The Half Sisters” was killed, the story that circulated is that he himself asked for that because he was envious of Andre Paras who has become the partner of lead star Barbie Forteza. Once and for all, would he want to clear this up?
“The truth is bago pa nag-start ang taping, I told them scheduled akong umalis with my mom and sister to see my dad in the States. Kaso, naging big hit ang show, na-extend nang na-extend ang story, e hindi ko naman puedeng pakansela o pa-rebook ang flight namin kasi ang laki ng babayaran namin sa airline. They were the ones who suggested patayin na lang ang role ko. It’s not because of Andre. Magkaibigan kami noon, e.”
So how’s his meeting with his lawyer dad whose name is George Crimarco? “We met in Miami kasi he has a case then in Florida. One day lang kami nagkasama. Hindi siya masyadong ngumingiti. I asked for a graduation gift after finishing high school and he gave me $6,500. Sagot niya rin ang plane fare namin and hotel accommodations.”
So when is his new soap? “I can’t accept a new one at this moment kasi I’m taking up legal management in San Beda. But they said I will have a new teleserye with Bea Binene in November. Right now, I’m doing a movie, ‘Babaylan’, where I play a warrior, with Neil Coleta and Nikki Valdez. I’m also doing guest roles in some GMA shows, like ‘Karelasyon’. At habang wala pa akong soap, I take workshops in acting and singing. I’m scheduled to record my first album soon.”
Derrick admits he has a girlfriend. “But bawal pong pag-usapan, sabi ng management.”
