KEN CHAN is so happy that the pilot week of his launching show about a transwoman, “Destiny Rose”, did very well in the ratings game. But he should thank Miggz Cuaderno for playing his character as a gay boy so effectively. Miggz has previously appeared in a movie about transgenders, “Quick Change”, and he even won the best actor award for his performance in this movie at the Cheries Gay and Lesbian International Filmfest at Paris, France two years ago.
Miggz really earned raves for his convincing portrayal of a gay child. Manilyn Reynes similarly gained praises as his loving and understanding mom who supports him all the way, despite violent opposition from his policeman dad, Joko Diaz, who is so disappointed that his only son has turned out to be a biniboy and even threatened to shoot him with his gun. Their parents had a big fight. Manilyn left with Joey but his sister, April Rose, was left behind with her dad who took her away to Cebu.
Joey grows up to be a gay young man in love with Jeric Gonzales as Vince who became his knight in shining armour when another guy, Lance, attacked him in a santakrusan. But Vince turns out to have a girlfriend named Tanya so he cries. Also, it turns out that his cousin Katrina Halili as Jasmine stole the poem he wrote and it won in a contest but the prize was given to Katrina.
“Panalong-panalo ang pilot week namin,” says Ken. “Kahit saan ako magpunta, people tell me napanood nila at tuwang-tuwa sila kay Miggz as the young Joey. Kaya lagi kong pinagbubuti ang acting ko kasi kailangang mapantayan ko ang husay ni Miggz. Happy naman ako dahil nang mapanood ako ng respetadong aktor na si Michael de Mesa, pinuri niya ang acting ko. Impressed daw siya kaya sobrang happy ako. He even said malayo ang mararating ko sa showbiz. Coming from a great actor like him, that’s really great encouragement.”
