MARK HERRAS was the male winner in the very first Starstruck artista search. He’s now a segment host in Starstruck 6. How come he’s not been so active lately? His last was show was still “Rhodora X” a year ago with Jennylyn Mercado, who has since starred in “Second Chances” and is now in “My Faithful Husband”?
“Okay lang naman kasi hindi naman ako nawawalan ng trabaho,” he says. “Panay ang guestings ko sa ‘Karelasyon’, ‘Wagas’, ‘Wish Ko Lang’ at napasama rin ako sa ‘Pari Koy’ and ‘My Mother’s Secret’. In a way, okay ring hindi ako ganun ka-busy kasi natututukan ko ang paglaki ng baby ko, si Ada, who’s turning two years old in November.”
Doesn’t he feel threatened that a new batch of new stars are coming again in Starstruck 6? “Actually, tuwing may bagong Starstruck batch, tinatanong nila ako, hindi ka ba natatakot? Matatakot ka lang naman kung may inggit ka sa katawan. E, ako, hindi naman ako naiinggit. I’m just thankful na it’s been 12 years since Starstruck 1 at naririto pa rin ako, may trabaho pa rin. Natutuwa nga ako na mas dumarami kami rito sa GMA and I’m ready to help the younger ones sa pagpasok nila rito.”
He was last romantically linked to Winwyn Marquez. Are they on? “Never naging officially kami. Busy siya, gusto niyang mag-focus sa career niya at wag munang mag-love life. Friends lang daw muna kami kasi magiging busy rin siya in helping ang kampanya of her mom (Alma Moreno) na tatakbo sa darating na election.”
How does he feel that Alden Richards, who was rejected by Starstruck, is now much bigger than any of them who came from the Artista Search? “Wala naman sa’kin yan. Kahit sinupang umabante o mas sumikat kaysa sa akin, I’m just happy for them. Lalo na si Alden, good friend ko yan kasi neighbors kami. Four streets away lang ang bahay nila sa amin. I’m happy for him kasi kahit puro Aldub Aldub ang mga taon ngayon, he has remained humble and down to earth. He deserves kung anuman yung tagumpay niya ngayon as Pambansang Dimples. Ang ipinagtataka ko lang, bakit kaya ako, walang dimples?” and he laughs.
