MOTHER LILY Monteverde is asking for prayers for her son Goldwyn who figured in an accident recently that broke all the toes on both his feet. “He was operated on for four hours and his feet are now in a cast,” she tells us at the Wednesday Club dinner meeting at Benito’s which is right beside her hotel, Imperial Palace. “Kawawa naman so please help us pray for him to get well soon.”
When Mother Lily celebrated her 76th birthday recently at her Valencia Events Place, little did she know that it will be controversial because presidential candidate Mar Roxas appeared there to greet her with wife Korina Sanchez. Because of this, some rival quarters are now sore at her. “You know, the truth is I didn’t invite anyone except the entertainment press na good friends ko,” she says. “Hindi ko alam na marami palang ibang pupunta roon. Alangan namang paalisin ko sila. And besides, friend ko naman si Mar. When I was in the hospital for my lung operation, he came to visit me with Pres. Noynoy. And his mom has been my friend for so many years now. Pero hindi ko alam na dahil doon, sasama ang loob ng ibang tao sa akin. All I can say is malayo pa naman ang election. Marami pang puedeng mangyari, so huwag muna sila mag-jump into conclusions kung sino ang susuportahan ko. As of now, busy ako kasi ang daming bagong movies ng Regal na sunod-sunod naming ipalalabas. Nandun muna ang focus ko, sa promotion nila.”
First to be released this September is “Resureksiyon”, a shocking horror flick starring Isabelle Diaz, Jasmine Curtis Smith and Paulo Avelino.
This will be followed by the romantic-comedy “No Boyfriend Since Birth” starring Tom Rodriguez, Carla Abellana, Mike Tan and Kiray Celis, directed by Jose Javier Reyes. Then there’s the movie filmed in New York, USA, “Pre-Nup”, starring Jennylyn Mercado and Sam Milby, directed by Jun Lana.
Regal’s last offering for this year is the Metro-Manila Filmfest entry, “Haunted Manzion”, a horror flick starring teen stars Janella Salvador and Marlo Mortel, with LJ Reyes, again directed by Jun Lana. Here’s wishing Mother Lily that all her releases this year will do good at the box office.
