HERE'S WISHING Angel Locsin would get the right treatment for her damaged spine that is giving her a lot of pain and which she says is the reason why she's giving up the chance to play "Darna" on the big screen. If she'd go on doing dangerous action scenes and stunts for the movie, her condition might just get worse and she might even get paralyzed, so it's really a wise decision for her not to do 'Darna' anymore.
It's said she got the ailment when she fell of a horse, not just once but several times, while filming the movie "Love Me Again" with Piolo Pascual in Bukidnon, which didn't do as well as expected at the box office so they were never paired again. Star Cinema has officially issued a statement about this, saying partly: "While we have envisioned her to do the iconic Filipino heroine, Angel’s health and safety are both our primary concern. Fans need not worry. They can still look forward to seeing her in a movie that she is currently shooting with Vilma Santos. Angel’s physical condition does not prevent her from finishing the said project. Again, we sincerely thank Angel for her hard work and pray for her recovery."
What's even more worrisome is the report that her condition might make it difficult for Angel to conceive and get pregnant. In which case, if and when she'd ever walk down the aisle with Luis Manzano, wonder how can they give Gov. Vi the grandchild she has long been waiting for?
Personally, though, we believe this serves as a graceful exit for Angel from the said project. Let's face it, Darna is usually played by a young actress. Vilma Santos was just of her teens when she played it. Angel herself was only 20 years old when she played Darna on TV, a big hit. But now, she's already 30 years old and that's quite "ancient" for an actress to portray the role.
When Anne Curtis played "Dyesebel" on TV, we also observed that she's quite old for the role as most actresses who played Dyesebel were in their teens and early 20s when they made their own respective versions of local filmdom's most famous mermaid. So what happened? Anne's Dyesebel didn't rate spectacularly as expected and, take note, Anne hasn't had another soap or any important movie after that.
So it's best that Angel leave Darna for younger actresses to portray, and Liza Soberano, touted to be her successor, is no doubt ideal for the role. She's only about to be 18, tall, beautiful and looks quite athletic, too. Just perfect to be the country's most well known flying heroine. Also, this would be a good vehicle for Liza to go solo after her love team with Enrique Gil was no doubt badly affected by the drunken incident at an airplane scandal. Liza has too much talent and star quality that she can very well survive on her own without the need of a ka-love team.
