WE’RE HAPPY for Claudine Barretto for making an auspicious and successful comeback in the hit ‘Etiquette for Mistresses’. She’s still a bit plump, but she does give a splendid performance as Chloe, an advertising executive who becomes the mistress of a much older man, played by Eddie Gutierrez. She has formed a barkada with other kabits like Kris Aquino, Iza Calzado, Kim Chiu and Cheena Crab. The difference of her character is she’s the hothead, very “palaban”.
When her paramour won’t answer her calls, she gets mad and throws her phone which smashes the window of a parked car and hit a passenger inside on the head. The scene is not that credible because we’re sure the cellphone is not that heavy and won’t create that much of an impact on a car’s glass window then still manage to fly and hit someone on the head, but Claudine handled that scene really well.
Among her friends, she’s at odds with Kris Aquino, considered the group’s leader who gives them advice on the rules of being a mistress. She doesn’t really like following those rules and when she defies it and urges their young ward, Kim Chiu, to go on and speak to her lover, Zoren Legaspi, even if his wife, Aiko Melendez, is very much around, all hell breaks lose between her and Kris. They’re both very good in their confrontation. In an interview, Claudine said: “I’m back. And I’m here to stay.” Well, good for her.
Off cam, we’re also glad that she and estranged husband Raymart Santiago are now in good terms once again for the welfare of their kids, Sabina and Santino. The court cases they filed against each other are also about to be settled, including child support, visitation rights and division of their properties.
Asked in “Tonight with Boy Abunda”, if she’s ready to love again, Claudine says she’s not yet prepared to jump into a new relationship. She’d rather focus on raising her kids and on her career now that she’s back in circulation. But she admits she’s now friends with an Ilonggo chef who has declared that he has a huge crush on her. But if ever she’d fall for a guy again, it has to be with someone who’ll accept her whole family, especially her two kids. “Kailangan, kaya akong panindigan at kaya akong buhayin.”
