LEA SALONGA took a lot of flak for posting in her social account a few weeks ago: "Okay lang po sa akin ang kababawan, pero hanggang doon na lang ba tayo?" AlDub fans quickly bashed her non-stop for that, but she denied it's meant for the AlDub phenomenon. She eventually kissed and made up even with Joey de Leon, who countered her twit with: "Hindi naman pala daw AlDub ang pinatatamaan ni Lea. Baka naman yung kabila?"
She obviously has not learned her lesson (hindi pa rin nadala) as she made another controversial twit over the equally controversial recycled gown worn by Yaya Dub in "Tamang Panahon" Grand Fans Day at Philippine Arena. Here's what she wrote: “All this hullabaloo over a dress? Don’t we have more pressing matters to attend to? Like our own lives, for example?”
As maybe expected, AlDub fans reacted to her remarks once again. They say maybe for Lea, it's not a big deal but for fans who care for Maine Mendoza, they're really very much concerned. They point out that this is not the first time Liz Uy as stylist did this. She has done it before to Marian Rivera to whom she gave a dress that was already worn by Kathryn Bernardo. So there's allegedly a pattern for Liz in making Kapuso stars wear something already worn by a Kapamilya star. They add that it also should be a big deal for TAPE and "Eat Bulaga" because they're paying Liz a big talent fee to take care of Maine but Liz was not careful and made her wear something that is recycled. Someone should advice Lea again to think twice before she twits.
Right now, Lea is so busy as her new show on Broadway, "Allegiance", has started running at the Longacre Theatre. Lea was first seen in Broadway in "Miss Saigon" and she was last seen playing Fantine (now played in London by Rachelle Ann Go) in "Les Miserables" in 2007. "Allegiance" is a musical inspired by the real life experiences of “Star Trek” TV series star George Takei during the Second World War in an internment camp and was previously staged at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego in 2012, with Lea also in it. Lea plays the role of Kei Kimura in the musical.
She and George Takei, who plays Sam Kimura first worked together when they did the voices in the Disney film “Mulan” in 1998. Lea was the singing voice for Mulan and George was the First Ancestor. Also in “Allegiance” are Telly Leung (“Godspell,” “Glee”) who portrays the young Sammy Kimura, Michael K. Lee (“Miss Saigon,” “Rent” and “Jesus Christ Superstar”) who plays Frankie Suzuki, and Katie Rose Clarke (“Wicked” and “The Light In The Piazza”) who acts as Nurse Hannah Campbell. If the show becomes a hit, Lea will be playing her role 8 times a week until mid-2016. AlDub fans, please pray that this latest Broadway show of our national treasure will also be a hit like "Miss Saigon".
