REGINE VELASQUEZ obviously enjoys being a judge in Starstruck Season 6. “Nakakatuwa kasi this is a very good batch,” she says. “I’m surprised kasi ang daming good singers na puede talagang i-develop. At lahat sila, may dating, kaya enjoy talaga ko.”
Who are her favorites? “Among the guys, Migo Adecer and sa girls, Klea Pineda. But all the rest, may karapatang masali sa Final 14, including my other bet, Jomarie .”
She’s now in the thick of preparations for her concert series this November. “Regine at the Theatre”, at the Solaire Resort and Casino, in cooperation with PLDT Home and their Regine Series of landline phones that all became best sellers with Regine as endorser.
“Medyo kabado ako sa concert na ito kasi it’s a totally different venue and I also have a very different repertoire kasi kakaiba ang concept,” she says. “The venue is more intimate and I’m hoping sana magustuhan ito ng audience and enjoy it. In the past concert series I did, I paid tribute to movie theme songs in ‘Regine at the Movies’ and to Barbra in ‘Regine Sings Streisand’. This time, I will be paying tribute to theatre musicals and sing songs from various hit musicals, not only Broadway musicals like ‘Phantom’, ‘Les Miz’, ‘Miss Saigon’, ‘The Last 5 Years’, but also local musicals like ‘Rak of Aegis’, ‘Noli Me Tangere’, ‘El Filibusterismo’ and Mr. Ryan Cayabyab’s ‘Katy’, so very exciting, kasi ngayon ko lang ito gagawin, with totally new arrangements na babagay sa concept ng show.”
She says ‘Noli Me Tangere’ has a special connection with her. “When I did it in 1995 playing Maria Clara, doon ako napansin ni Boss Vic del Rosario and he said, puede ka na umarte sa pelikula. Then he got me in ‘Wanted Perfect Mother’, na nag-hit, kaya after that sunod-sunod na ang movies ko. My special guest in all weekends sa ‘Regine at the Theatre’ is Audie Gemora, who played Crisostomo Ibarra when I did ‘Noli Me Tangere’. Sa first weekend on November 6 and 7, guest ko si Aicelle Santos and sa second weekend naman on November 20 and 21, si Jonalyn Viray. Sabi ni Manay Lolit Solis, pinaghiwalay sila kasi nag-aaway raw, pero hindi naman, kasi pinagbati ko na sila,” she laughs.
What will be the role of her husband, Ogie Alcasid? “Wala, taong bahay siya. Aalagaan muna niya si Nate habang nagko-concert si Mommy. Hindi, of course, he’ll be there. Excited nga siya sa concept ng concert series kong ito, e.”
What can she say about her co-host in “Bet ng Bayan”, Alden Richards, who has since become very popular because of the AlDub phenomenon? “Sobrang natutuwa ako for him. Maski ang anak ko ngang si Nate, kilala siya. Kuya Alden ang tawag sa kanya kasi niregaluhan niya ng Lego. Ang cute nga ni Nate kasi gustong-gusto siya at si Alden, laging hinahanap si Nate kapag nakikita ko. Sasabihin sa’kin, Ate, nasaan na si Nate? Miss ko na siya. I think he truly deserves all the success he’s getting kasi he’s such a nice and genuine person, bukod pa nga sa pagiging a good actor and also a good host. Happy ako para sa kanilang dalawa ni Yaya Dub.”
