SAM MILBY says it’s quite possible for him to fall in love with his “The PreNup” leading lady, Jennylyn Mercado.”She’s maganda, mabait, outgoing, walang arte, sexy,” he says. “She’s every guy’s dream. We became quite close while shooting our movie in New York. We both love sports and we both do mixed martial arts. Astig, di ba? Even on screen, we have good chemistry. Pagbalik namin dito sa Manila, na-miss ko siya. I kept on asking Regal, when are we going to shoot again?”
Didn’t he get to take her around New York while they were there? “No, there was no time for pasyal. We were there for one week and we were just shooting everyday.”
So would he court Jen? “I don’t want naman to do that while we’re promoting the movie, baka sabihin gimmick lang. Porke may project kayo, naging kayo na. Dapat, sa labas ng project, so let’s just wait and see after the movie is shown.”
He was the original choice to be Jen’s leading man in “English Only, Please” but he was not available so he was replaced by Derek Ramsay, who eventually won best actor award in the surprise filmfest hit. Did he regret not having done that movie? “Siempre, may feeling na sayang, hindi ko nagawa yun. But then, everything happens for a reason and Derek did a very good job. What’s important is that finally, natuloy kami ni Jen here in ‘The Pre-Nup’ which we’re both proud of.”
“The PreNup” is a movie of many firsts for him. It’s not only his first movie with Jen, but also with Regal Entertainment and Director Jun Lana. “I had a great time. Everything went well and I think we have come up with a really feel good movie that viewers will enjoy watching.”
In the movie, his wealthy parents, Jaclyn Jose and Freddie Webb, demanded that Jen sign a prenuptial agreement before their wedding. In real life, would he also require his bride to sign a pre-nup? “Actually, I don’t believe in pre-nups. I believe that in marriage, you become one and you should share everything. At saka pag may pre-nup, may bad vibes na agad kasi parang you expect that in the future, maghihiwalay nga kayo. Kung ang parents ng bride ko ang ayaw sa’kin, I will just try my best to win them over para magtiwala sila sa akin.”
He hasn’t had a new girlfriend since he broke up with Anne Curtis nearly six years ago. “But I do go out on dates naman, wala nga lang official girlfriend.”
