SO WHO looked better wearing the recycled pink gown: Yaya Dub or Kim Chiu?
This is the story of Yaya Dub aka Maine Mendoza's recycled pink sleeveless princess-cut gown with an embroidered skirt that she wore at the mammoth hit "Tamang Panahon Grand Fans Day" at Philippine Arena last Saturday. We're sure that when Yaya Dub wore it, she didn't even have an inkling at all that it will later turn into a national issue. Soon after the show, photos of Kim Chiu wearing the same gown surfaced on social media. Immediately, diehard fans of Yaya Dub blamed her stylist, Liz Uy, for choosing a gown that has already been worn by a star of the rival network and even said that she did this on purpose because her loyalty is really with her Kapamilya friends.
Both Yaya Dub's gown and Alden Richards' suit with coat tails at "Tamang Panahon" were from designer Francis Libiran who revealed that Kim Chiu wore it first as his model for his 2013 Metrowear collection and fashion show held at Shangrila Hotel. Several other lesser known clients of his have since asked him to make a similar gown for them but no other celebrity has worn it. "Eat Bulaga" didn't just borrow the gown from him but paid for a new gown he made for Yaya Dub and her stylists in Stylized Studio are well aware that Kim has won a similar gown before.
Now that this has been cleared, the next question being debated upon is who looked better wearing the same gown: Yaya Dub or Kim? This prompted Kim to comment that fans should not turn it into such an issue as it's only a gown. Allan K also said "a gown is just a gown."
What cannot be denied, though, is that AlDub is really the most popular love team in the country today. They started only on July 16 and now, after more than three months, they have gained fans not only locally but all over the world, as shown by the 50 million plus tweets their 'Tamang Panahon' encounter at Philippine Arena generated and got a rating of 50 percent. This means a lot of their fans really focused on "Eat Bulaga" that time and postponed whatever it is that they're supposed to do. AlDub has promoted GMA Pinoy TV abroad in truly a major major way.
We know we have other love teams like KathNiel, JaDine and LizQuen, but can they make the same claim of such a huge accomplishment on Twitter and in the ratings game? No doubt, this early, it's quite easy to predict that the first movie together of AlDub, "My Bebe Love", has all the makings of a monster blockbuster. And with the "Eat Bulaga" team of resourceful brainstormers charting their careers, Alden and Maine can be sure that they will not be mere flash in the pans, but have careers that might last through several years and several other projects. #ALDUBPredictions
