BEA ALONZO says she and John Lloyd Cruz never expected that their hit 2007 movie, “One More Chance”, which they did when their love team was just starting, would someday have a sequel. “Actually, ni hindi nga namin ine-expect na papatok ng ganun kalaki ang movie kasi we were just showing the anatomy of a breakup,” she adds. “Then the production team came up with a book adaptation of the movie, parang nobela, and it became a bestseller. Doon namin na-realize that people really love the characters we played, Popoy and Basha, at gusto pa rin nilang malaman kung ano na ba ang nangyari sa mga ito, so that all inspired us to come up with the sequel, ito na ngang ‘A Second Chance’, na regalo namin to all the people who care for Popoy and Basha.”
So what can their followers expect in the sequel? “Siempre, ngayon, nag-level up na ang bagong movie kasi ipapakita ang marital problems na kinakaharap nina Popoy at Basha, who have also become more mature adults. Grabe nga ang response we’re getting on social media about ‘Second Chance’ kasi marami ang nagsasabing inaabangan talaga nila ang sequel.”
Does she feel any pressure that the sequel might not be as successful as the original movie? “Oo naman, but we welcome the pressure. Kasi kung walang pressure, it won’t be as much fun. The pressure helps build up the adrenalin rush. But we’re all confident nina Direk Cathy Molina na magugustuhan ng viewers ang ‘A Second Chance’ kasi we did everything para mas mapaganda ito.”
Bea just comes from another hit, “The Love Affair”, with Richard Gomez, which grossed P300 million worldwide. Her last movie with John Lloyd, “The Mistress”, was still in 2012 and was also a blockbuster, so it looks like she has another big hit coming up. Meantime, her BF Zanjoe Marudo has not done a movie for a longtime. “Okay lang kasi sunod-sunod naman ang teleseryes niya,” says Bea. “May ‘Tubig at Langis’ siyang ginagawa ngayon with Cristine Reyes.
It seems their relationship is so smooth sailing now. No more rumors about cooling off or anything like that. “Just like other couples, we’re not perfect. It’s not going to be realistic naman in a relationship kung wala kayong mga pinagdaraanan every now and then. The important thing is naaayos nyo yun and you move on.”
