Horror-Comedy 'Buy Now Die Later' Is One Entry To Look Forward To In The Coming Metro-Manila Filmfest

ATTY. JOJI ALONSO was very successful in last year’s Metro Filmfest with her sleeper hit, “English Only, Please”, that not only because successful at the box office but also won awards, including acting awards for its lead stars, Derek Ramsay and Jennylyn Mercado. She now has not just one but two entries in the coming December film festival: “Walang Forever” with Jericho Rosales and Jennylyn Mercado and the unique horror-comedy “Buy Now Die Later” where she succeeds in putting together a cast of both Kapamilya and Kapuso actors.

“Buy Now Die Later” is something to look forward to as it’s an extraordinary take on the supernatural. Each of the major characters represents our five senses: sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch. They’re all interconnected through a curious shop owner, TJ Trinidad, who sells mysterious items that can grant the wish of any customer, but at it comes with a heavy cost.

Vhong Navarro is Odie and represents the sense of sight. He’s an online blogger who aspires to be a famous photo-journalist like his father. He gets an expensive cell phone from Santi’s shop that gives him a news worthy scoop each time he uses it app. Not only that, aside from the scoops he makes on his website, he also ends up solving mysteries behind each of the exclusive stories he stumbles upon.

Rayver Cruz is Ato, Vhong’s friend who owns a restaurant called Taste Buds and represents the sense of taste. His restaurant business flourishes after striking a deal with Santi who gives him a secret ingredient that makes their dishes very delicious. But eventually, he and his family will be made to pay for their greed.

Alex Gonzaga is Chloe and represents the sense of hearing. Her ambition is to be a popular singer but she has little talent. With the help of her mom (Lotlot de Leon), she makes a deal with Santi and gets a cell phone that makes her singing voice flawless. Because of this, her first single, ‘Alive na Alive ang Puso Dahil Deads na Deads Ako Sa’Yo’, becomes a monster hit. But this comes with a price as she has to deal with some mysterious voices from the strange cell phone.

John “Sweet” Lapus is Pippa, representing the sense of smell. He’s a fan of Chloe who has a big crush on the hunky Narciso (Manuel Chua) who is more in love with Sweet’s sister Lara (Cai Cortez). In a deal with Santi, he gets a sweet smelling scent that makes every guy he fancies fall for him.

Lastly, Lotlot de Leon as Maita represents the sense of touch. She asks Santi to bring her daughter Alex’s life back to normal. But Santi makes a counter offer for her to relive her youth and pursue an aborted career thought a magical cream. This is where Lotlot’s real life daughter appears, as the young Maita. Whenever Lotlot uses the special cream, she becomes the young and spirited Janice. But again, this comes at a cost. So in the end, she and the other characters will join forces to fight the evil Santi and his vicious minions.

Written and directed by the young but talented filmmaker Randolph Longjas (who did the acclaimed comedy “Ang Turkey Man ay Pabo Rin”), “Buy Now Die Later” is co-produced with MJM Productions, Tuko Film Productions and Buchi Boy Films.
