“Nagulat siya but she’s very supportive, she wishes me good luck,” he says. “We’re both happy dahil pareho kaming merong projects.”
Didn’t he feel nervous about moving to another network? “Siempre, kinakabahan din ako dahil new surroundings, but I have some friends here naman, like Sam Concepcion, Enrique Gil. And so far, very warm naman ang pag-welcome nila sa’kin as a new Kapamilya.”
Did he move because he felt GMA is neglecting him? “Ay hindi po. GMA gave me five years of good experiences and molded me into what I am now. It’s my decision and my mom’s, who’s my manager, after my contract with GMA ended a few months ago. Pinag-aralan, pinag-usapan muna naming mabuti. It wasn’t an easy decision but I felt I want to try something new. I want to explore, to grow, so I took the chance. This is a new challenge, a new adventure for me. Also, I felt my dad’s spirit (Francis Magalona) is still with me, with our family. While studying my decision, lagi ko siyang napapanood sa old movies niya and I felt it’s a sign from him telling me to try new things. Nagpaalam din naman kami ng mom ko nang maayos so no bad vibes between GMA and us.”
He’s always paired with an actress whose name starts with J: Julie Anne, Janine, and now, Janella. How does it feel working with Janella? “First time namin to meet just last week. It’s cool. We both come from a family of musicians so I’m excited to work with her. She’s bubbly and energetic. I hope the public will accept us as a team.”
What is “Born for You” all about? “It’s about destiny. Kasi you might not be aware of it pero may nakakatagpo ka palang tao in life na you’re not aware is the one destined or born for you. This will not just be a drama kasi we both sing, so it will have many musical numbers.”
