DO YOU KNOW that Pia Wurtzbach is part of ABS-CBN’s Star Circle Batch 11 introduced in 2002? Exactly 13 years ago. That was when she was only 12 years old. We remember her as she was the tallest in their batch. She turned 26 on September 24 this year. She’s the eldest winner among our three Miss Universe title holders. Gloria Diaz was only 18 she won the title in 1969 and Margie Moran was 20 years old when she won in 1973.
Pia has a German father and a Pinay mom. She was born in Stuttgart, Germany. She started as a TV commercial model when she was 4 years old. At ABS-CBN, she was then given a local surname: Romero. She was introduced in the short-lived youth oriented show, “K2BU”, and did other shows like “Bora” with the Hunks, “Your Song”, “ASAP” and the soap “Sa Piling Mo”.
But her career as an artista didn’t really prosper that much and so she branched out into becoming a stylist and make-up artist. She even wrote articles on beauty in the Inquirer.
Other stars included in her Star Circle batch are Glaiza de Castro (now with GMA-7), Nikki Gil (now married), Pauleen Luna (now about to get married), brothers Rayver and Rodjun Cruz, Ketchup Eusebio, Carla Humphries, Paolo Paraiso, John Wayne Sace (retired), Juddha Paolo (also retired), Mico Aytona (now sings in Zirkoh), Cholo Barretto (does indie films) and Jill Yulo. The member of that batch who really made a big name for herself is Maja Salvador, who did several lead roles in soaps, movies and had two hit albums, although her recent concert in MOA was not that successful.
Now, Pia would be considered as the most successful member of that Star Circle batch. She’s the perfect example of the adage “try and try until you succeed”. Standing 5’8” and measuring 34-23-35, she joined the Bb. Pilipinas Pageant in 2013 and became the 1st runner up. She joined it again in 2014 and was only one of the top 15 finalists, until she finally became the Bb. Pilipinas Universe title-holder this year. Maybe ABS-CBN will now revive her showbiz career.
