“Obvious bang malaki ang expectations ng GMA?” she says. “Kasi hindi naman nila kami ilalagay sa primetime at itatapat sa isang establisadong show sa kabila (of Kathniel) kung wala silang tiwala sa tambalan namin ni Andre. Pero ayokong magpa-pressure. Sa ‘Half Sisters’ noon, we never expected it to be such a big hit na halos abutin ng two years on the air. Basta we just did our best at yun, nagustuhan ng viewers. So ganun din dito sa ‘That’s My Amboy’. We’ll just do our best.”
She enjoys playing her role as Maru, the daughter of a former actress, Donita Rose, whose career went down the drain when she was prematurely impregnated by a top actor, Tonton Gutierrez, who deserted her. Donita finds comfort in a stuntman, John Arcilla of “Heneral Luna”, who marries her and they have two more daughters, Pauline Mendoza and Kryshee Grengia.
“Dahil sa isang aksidente sa stunt, na-injure ang stepdad ko at ang may kagagawan, yung pinakasikat na young actor, ang Amboy na si Bryan Ford, played by Andre,” adds Barbie. “Para makabawi sa family namin, kinuha ako ng manager niya, si Meryll Soriano, para maging P.A. or personal assistant ni Andre. Spoiled brat si Andre and he can get away with everything he wants. Pero sa akin, hindi puede mga kalokohan niya. Lagi kaming nag-aaway at di ako sumusuko sa kanya. Ang ka-love team niya, si Pam Prinster, pero ang secret girlfriend niya, si Jazz Ocampo. Ang karibal naman niya sa kasikatan, si Kiko Estrada. May pagdaraanang heartache si Andre and, eventually, magkakalapit kami and he will ask me to pretend na ako ang girlfriend niya.”
“That’s My Amboy” is directed by Joyce Bernal and starts airing tonight after “Little Nanay”, followed by “Because of You” and the Koreanovela “Temptation.”
