IZA CALZADO’s last regular soap was still “Hawak Kamay” two years ago. On the big screen, she just played supporting roles in movies like “Starting Over Again”, “Barber’s Tales”, “Maria Leonora Teresa”, “Etiquette for Mistresses” and “Haunted Mansion”, so we’re happy that once again gets to play the lead role in the CineFilipino entry, “Buhay Habangbuhay”, written and directed by Paolo Herras.
She plays Sandy, a dutiful wife who accidentally kills herself while cooking in her own kitchen. She’s used to being so devoted to her husband Joel (Jake Macapagal) that, as a ghost, she remains so loyal to him and just waits for him to also die so they can be reunited in the afterlife. While she’s waiting, Sandy discovers she’s no ordinary ghost but has other ghostly abilities.
She playfully haunts her husband. She can turn dark or light, depending on her disposition. Her husband remarries (to Meryl Soriano) and has a son, and Sandy learns to live with them, too. But when Joel finally dies, he vanishes and cannot be found. It dawns on Sandy that her waiting was all in vain so she lets go and moves on from her past life and love, realizing she can still do so much more good in this world even as a spirit, making the movie a celebration of life.
Iza is now also shooting a movie with Derek Ramsay, “My Candidate”. Then she goes to Los Angeles to take up some advanced acting lessons. When she returns, she’ll be working with acclaimed director Jerrold Tarog in his follow up project after the very successful “Heneral Luna”. After hosting “The Biggest Loser”, Iza has also released her own workout video for those who want to keep fit.
Iza is likewise a newly appointed National Ambassador of World Wide Fund for Nature Philippines (WWF) who’ll help spread awareness about climate change, conservation and environmental protection and education. She wants to remind one and all that this year’s Earth Hour will be held this coming March 19, Saturday, and we should all try to participate to make a difference for Mother Earth and make this world a better place.
How about rumors that she’s about to walk down the aisle with her Aussie businessman BF, Ben Wintle? “Naku, not true. Hindi pa ako ready. Ang dami pang projects na dumarating para sa akin. Marriage requires 100% commitment at hindi pa ako ready for that and I’m glad he’s very understanding and supportive.”
