JC DE VERA never had a regular ka-love team since he started in showbiz in GMA-7’s click in 2003. He was first linked to Michelle Madrigal, then to Rhian Ramos, then paired with Yasmien Kurdi in some soaps and was also linked to LJ Reyes. But he never experienced having a partner accepted by viewers like his tandem now with Jessy Mendiola in “You’re My Home” that’s ending by next week. Their characters, Grace and Christian, have now formed the Grace-Tian love team.
“We ourselves were surprised sa naging mainit na pagtanggap ng viewers sa amin ni Jessy,” says JC. “But we’re happy na nagustuhan nila kami at ang aming show. Nagulat nga kami kasi we’ve been just told that we’re having a meeting soon with Star Cinema for a possible movie.”
Now, JC also ventures into another field: being a recording artist with his debut album, “Stellar”, launched by Ivory Records. Has he always dreamt of being a singer? “I’m not tone deaf. Hindi rin ako sintunado, but no, wala ito sa career plans ko. When my manager, Leo Dominguez, asked me if I want to record an album, sabi ko, bakit po? He said, someone is interested and he was able to convince me agad. Before kasi, hindi never naman akong nabigyan ng chance to sing, so when the opportunity came, I grabbed it.”
Did he take voice lessons to prepare for it? “No. Lakasan lang ng loob and, surprisingly, it turned out well. Maganda ang feedback sa album ko and we’re so happy about it. Hands on ako rito, mula sa pagpili ng songs na combination ng love songs, ballads, dance tunes and heartbreak songs, hanggang sa pagre-recording nito. I want to make sure that the listeners will be pleased. There are five originals and only one revival, ‘Heaven Knows’ ng Orange & Lemons. I myself chose the album title, ‘Stellar’, kasi the songs in the album tell a story about a guy who dreams about the stars and falling in love with a girl. The first single, ‘Langit na Rin’, has a music video and Jessy is my leading lady. The other songs are ‘Nabihag’ with Jessy, ‘One Night One Kiss’ with Lovi Poe and the heartbreak song, ‘Pakiusap’.”
JC will hold a mall tour on Sundays of April to June where he’ll sing his songs: SM Lipa on April 3, SM Rosales on April 10, Gaisano Ground South Davao and Granda Tagum on April 17, Gaisano Marbel Koronadal on April 24, Gaisano Digos Davao on May 8, SM Pampanga on May 15, Gaisano Fiesta Mall Cebu on May 29 and Island City Mall Bohol on June 25.
For updates on JC, follow Ivory Music on Facebook.com/ivorymusicandvideophilippines. JC is also waiting for the shooting of his movie with Nora Aunor, “Kabisera”, to resume. “Ilang shooting days na lang, matatapos na, but we don’t know yet when we’ll shoot again,” he says.
