BG PRODUCTIONS scored high in the international film festivals where its movies were official entries. In the Fantasporto International Filmfest in Portugal, Barbie Forteza won best actress for their movie, “Laut”, about Badjao illegal settles in Pampanga, directed by Louie Ignacio.. The film also won the Special Mention from the Jury.
This week, another movie they produced, “Iadya Mo Kami”, won the best actor award for Allen Dizon at the Silk Road Filmfest in Dublin, Ireland. He plays the role of a young priest who sires a child and later accused of murdering a politician. This is a back to back win for Allen in Ireland as he also won the best actor award last year in the same filmfest for the movie “Magkakabaung”. This is a first in the history of this filmfest.
BG Productions’ Baby Go is inspired and all the more encouraged by these honors from abroad and some quarters now dub her as the Queen of Indie Films for producing so many independent films that win prizes abroad. “Nakakatuwa kasi hindi nasasayang ang efforts namin in producing meaningful films like ‘Laut’ and ‘Iadya Mo Kami’,” she says. “I hope ‘Laut’ will make viewers sympathize with the sad plight of our indigenous people like the Badjaos who are uprooted from Mindanao because of extreme poverty. I really find their story very touching.”
