SID LUCERO plays Ina Raymundo’s brother (with Jaclyn Jose as their mom) in “The Millionaire’s Wife”, but he’s very open about his admiration for his “sister”. When they first saw each other, he told Ina: “You’re so beautiful, you’re so gorgeous.” “Totoo naman, e,” says Sid, who’s currently in a relationship with Anika Dolonius, his leading lady in the QCinema Filmfest best picture, “Apocalypse Child”. “I was surprised when I learned she has five kids na. Sexy pa rin siya.”
Sid showed a lot of promise when he started in showbiz, winning best actor awards for films like “Selda” and “Muli” and doing lead roles in films exhibited at the prestigious Cannes Filmfest, like “Death March” and “Norte, Hangganan ng Kasaysayan” and the short film, “Oasis”. We really thought he’d be the next Coco Martin, who also started auspiciously in indie films then successfully transitioned by going mainstream on TV and the movies.
But something went wrong somewhere for Sid. The promise was not fulfilled. Some say because Sid is slack in his work, often just sleeping on the set, unlike Coco who’s always energetic and all fired up when doing a show. So GMA-7 did not give him any project for a while. Well, we’re glad he now has a new soap in “Millionaire’s Wife” and here’s hoping he will be a real professional while taping it.
In fairness to Sid, his acting prowess has not at all diminished. We’ve seen his last two indie films, “Apocalypse Child” (where he plays the role of a surfer who may or not maybe the child of Francis Ford Coppola) and “Toto” (where he plays a man who desperately wants to get a U.S. and work in the States), and he continues to give excellent performances in both films.
His last relationship before Anika Dolonius was with Alessandra de Rossi when they did the movie “Resiko” in Mauban, Quezon, and he admits they had a bad breakup. “I was in a very dark place at that time. I was not myself. Maraming taong naapektuhan at kasama na dun ang relasyon ko with Alex. Gusto kong umahon noon sa kinalalagyan kong yun kasi hindi na siya maganda. It was a constant struggle for me at ayokong may madamay na ibang tao. But I want to do it by myself. Ayokong umasa o maging dependent sa ibang tao. Hopefully, I pray that one day, I will gather enough strength to face Alex and apologize to her. Alam ko na marami akong naging pagkakamali sa kanya at sa ibang tao. Gusto kong bumawi talaga. Pero we will do it nang paunti-unti. One person at a time.”
He said the wake up call came when his house in Merville, Paranaque was razed by a fire before Christmas last year that he himself caused because of his smoking. “Nasunog lahat ng gamit ko, pati acting trophies ko. It was terrifying, but at least, buhay ako. After that, I don’t want to smoke anymore. I was traumatized. Now, napa-repair ko na yung house ko and I’m really turning over a new leaf.”
