ALJUR ABRENICA says he feels some pressure now that he’s back on primetime in “Once Again” after his tiff with GMA-7. “But more than the pressure, what I feel is a lot of excitement,” he says. “My last primetime show was ‘Kambal Sirena’ na more than two years ago pa. Last year, nabigyan ako uli ng show, ‘Dangwa’, but it’s in the morning. So ngayon, back to GMA Telebabad sa gabi and I’m also thrilled kasi while I didn’t have a show due to a case of misunderstanding between the network and the artist, nag-aral ako, ang dami kong natutuhan about my craft, and now I’m eager to apply sa work ko ang lahat ng learnings mula sa mga pinagdaanan ko.”
So what has he learned? “I now acknowledge na mali yung ginawa ko, pero pinaninindigan ko po yung pinanggalingan noon. I got to know myself better at ang gusto ko talaga, tumagal sa industriyang ito. Mas malayo pa ang marating ko. Habang wala akong assignment on TV, I did a lot of indie films and I learned a lot from the young directors I works with, like Director Ato Bautista with whom I did ‘Expressway’ na palabas ngayon as part of SinagMaynila Film Festival, and also ‘Mabalasik’ with Rocco Nacino. I also finished ‘EDSA’ with Kris Bernal for Director Alvin Yapan and ‘Hermano Puli’ with Direk Gil Portes na baka isali raw sa 2016 Metro-Manila Filmfest. My experiences in all those movies no doubt help me to become a better actor.”
