DOMINIC OCHOA was part of Star Circle Batch 4 introduced in 1997. Now, after doing countless supporting roles, he finally gets to play the lead and title role in “My Super D”, where he gets to do a superhero role as the doting father of Marco Masa. “I’ve never played a lead role in a teleserye before,” he says. “And now, heto, superhero and title role pa ako as Super D. I got excited for my four-year old son Sandro kasi binili lang siya ng mom niya, my wife Denise, ng superhero outfits for his school and now he’d see me playing a superhero. And our show carries very positive messages for children.”
At its presscon at Dolphy Theatre last Tuesday, the cast members were shown with old photos showing them with their own fathers. Dominic cried when his photo with his dad was shown on screen. “My dad taught me everything in life,” he says, unable to hold back his tears. “He’s very friendly, accommodating to everyone. He’s a man of principle and very professional sa work niya. What I am now is because of him.”
In “My Super D”, which starts airing on Monday as pre-program to “TV Patrol”, Dominic plays Dodong, a security guard whose idol is the late superhero Super D (Richard Yap in a guest role) who helps people in need. But being a do-gooder puts him into trouble due to a construction accident and he gets jailed. His wife, Bianca Manalo as Nicole, leaves him with their child, Marco Masa as Dennis.
When he’s released from prison, he works as a stuntman doubling for Marvin Agustin in a children’s show. The show’s writer, Nonie Buencamino, is a friend of the late Super D and he helps Dominic to be the new Super D. Also in the show are Ronaldo Valdez as the main villain, Sylvia Sanchez as Dominic’s mom, plus Jason Francisco, Jayson Gainza, Marina Benipayo, Atoy Co, Myrtle Sarrosa, Jef Gaitan and Bong Regala, directed by Frasco Mortiz and Lino Cayetano. This starts airing on Monday.
