AIKO MELENDEZ is currently lucky in both love and career. As an actress, she’s quite busy in both the small and the big screen. She’s a mainstay in “The Story of US” and she has just finished two movies. In “Iadya Mo Kami”, she co-stars with Allen Dizon, Diana Zubiri (who’s now pregnant with a baby girl, courtesy of husband Andrew Smith), Ricky Davao and Eddie Garcia, directed by Mel Chionglo.
She also shooting “Balatkayo”, playing the lead role of an OFW working in Singapore. She’s married to Polo Ravales who’s working in Dubai, but both of them are indulging in extra-marital affairs. Her lover is PBB alumnus Rico Barrera (who gets his biggest break in this movie) while Polo is having an affair with Nathalie Hart, directed by Neal Tan.
Off-cam, Aiko’s lovelife is also flourishing as she has found a new BF in Shahin Alimirzapour, a Persian student who’s taking up dentistry here in Manila at Centro Escolar University. They met in a party and Shahin doesn’t know she’s an actress. They then became friends through social media and now, they’re officially on.
Aiko is 40 and the guy is 28 years old but, as they say, age doesn’t matter. To begin with, Aiko looks so much younger than her real age and doesn’t at all look like she’s 12 years older than her foreigner BF. Aiko admits many people are against her relationship with a much younger guy but she implores them to not be so negative and just give her the chance to be happy with her new love.
Aiko is now in the same boat as her contemporary, Ruffa Gutierrez, whose current BF, is also a foreigner and is also younger than her. It’s good Aiko doesn’t have a mom like Annabelle Rama who’s very much allergic to her beau. But she admits that her son, Andre, didn’t talk to her for ten days after she revealed in Instagram that she has a new BF without informing him first.
“Pero okay na sila ngayon. Hindi naman puedeng madaliin ang ganyang bagay. But nagba-bonding na nga kami and Shahin is making an effort to be close to my kids, Andre and Marthena,” says Aiko.
