Derek Ramsay Denies Rumor That He Has Broken Up With Non-Showbiz Girlfriend Because Of Shaina Magdayao

DEREK RAMSAY plays a congressman from Bulacan who runs for a national position as senator in his newest movie, “My Candidate”. In real life, does he see himself entering politics someday? “No, never!” he says at his movie’s presscon. “You can still help people naman without joining politics at never kong nakita ang sarili kong papasukin ang mundo ng politika. It’s not for me. Ni hindi nga ako pumayag na mag-endorse ng kahit sinong kandidato kahit binabayaran pa ako.”

So how is it working with Shaina Magdayao as the life coach who trains him in public speaking in “My Candidate”? “It was great working with her. It’s our first time together and she’s a brilliant actress. I don’t know why she was not give a break before in a lead role. She’s very convincing in playing her role here as Billie, a trainer who helps other people sort out their problems when her own life is also problematic and she has relationship issues with her own dad. I really had fun working with her and I hope we get to work together again some time.”

How about Iza Calzado as Vera, his ex-girlfriend in the story who dumped him and is now his rival in getting a seat in the senate? “It’s also my first time to work with her and she’s the most intense actress I’ve worked with. She really prepares for her scenes and I haven’t seen anything like it. I really have to work hard when I do my scenes with her dahil ayokong mapahiya. You should watch out for that scene where we engage in a TV debate and napahiya siya dahil sa question ko and later, I make it up to her off cam. Ang galing niya.”

We’ve seen the said scene and Iza is really good. But in all fairness to Derek, he’s also excellent in the movie. He’s really improving each time we see him, from “English Only, Please”, “The Janitor” and even in so-so flicks like “Ex With Benefits”, “All You Need is Pag-ibig” and “Love is Blind” where his acting still shines. In “My Candidate”, which opens in theaters on May 11, he delivers another sterling portrayal as a good hearted young politician you’d wish there more public servants like him.

Is it true he and GF model Joanne Villablanca has broken up because she got jealous of Shaina? “No, we’re good. After this presscon, we’re going to watch a movie with her daughter, Sophie, then next month, we’ll travel together to a frisbee sports competition sa U.K. Kawawa naman si Shaina at napagbintangan pa. She’s not that kind of woman na mang-aagaw, but I guess it’s because may movie nga kami. Lagi naman akong nali-link sa leading ladies ko.”
