Iza Calzado To Shoot A New Film In Hollywood, The Second After She Did 'The Echo' Six Years Ago

IZA CALZADO went to the U.S. for a while to study acting and she’s lucky to have been hired to shoot an indie film there. “It’s a thriller and the director is currently the only Filipino who’s a member of the prestigious Directors Guild of America,” she says. “Another Filipino actor in it is Jake Macapagal. Nakakatuwa nga kasi something good came out of my trip there. I think I was in the right place at the right time.”

This is her second Hollywood movie after “The Echo” in 2009. So is she staying in the U.S. for good? “I don’t even have yet the necessary papers to work there. But I’m kind of preparing if it’d require me to actually live there. Malay natin, may ibang opportunities there waiting for me. We just have to keep on exploring.”

Meantime, she’s busy promoting her new movie with Derek Ramsay and Shaina Magdayao. Didn’t she feel reluctant being the third wheel in the story? “No. I had no second thoughts kasi the director, Quark Henares, is a good friend and, primarily, I really want to work with him, also with Derek and Shaina and our producer, Atty. Joji Alonso. Si Atty. Joji, kung magbayad, cash agad, kaya Atty., kunin mo uli ako ha. Fun movie rin ang ‘My Candidate’ kaya I enjoyed doing it. Kakaiba ang role ko kasi, usually, mabait ako lagi, pero dito, may pagka-scheming ako, maldita as the ex-girlfriend of Derek na naging karibal niya sa pagtakbo sa senado. Kahit sarcastic at nang-iinsulto ako rito, naka-smile pa rin.”

Iza is also doing a new teleserye with Bea Alonzo and Gerald Anderson, and a new movie, a sexy suspense-thriller, with “Heneral Luna” director Jerrold Tarog co-starring Ian Veneracion and TJ Trinidad. With all these projects, it seems like we won’t hear wedding bells yet for her and BF Ben Wintle.

“Naku, wala pa kaming plano talaga,” she says. “Both of us are so busy at marami pa kaming ibang plano sa buhay so matagal pa yun, if ever.”
